Tea and Violets

Good morning my good friends.

I had a wonderful week away with my sister at Myrtle Beach. We talked, laughed, went for walks on the beach, and drank copious amounts of tea. It was great!

Now I am back home and wondering what to share with my blogging family today. Well as far as I am concerned it's always time for tea and I thought we could use one of the few treasures that I inherited from my family: this teapot and plate. They were painted by one of my cousins, back in the day when it was it was the fashion for gentile ladies to take china painting lessons. They usually painted on Limoges and always painted flowers.
The colors and shading on this plate and teapot are beautiful and isn't the shape of the teapot elegant?Since I am pouring tea from a teapot with violets, I got out 2 cups and saucers with violets on them. This one is pale blue, with white inside the cup.
This one is very elegant, with the gold around the edge. I like the way teacups often have a little design inside, and it can only be seen if you are holding the cup with your right hand.
Teacups usually have a smaller version of the design on the back so the best view of the cup faces the person who is using it (provided they pick up the cup in their right hand)
This particular saucer is covered with flowers. Isn't it beautiful?
Please stay for awhile and have some tea with me. I've missed you and want to catch up on all your news! Now which teacup would you like and I forget, do you take milk? sugar?

  1. Milk please Rhondi. I was so pleased to come and check my comments only to see that you had stopped by. I checked your blog and you had not returned yet. I missed you but am so happy you had such a wonderful time with your sister. What fun to be able to get away with her.

I love your teacups but I am left handed and never see these insides like some people do. I just adore violets. That teapot and plate were hand painted by someone in your family? What talent! It is so pretty. I was also admiring the cross stitched tablecloth under the items in the photos. I love things like this!

Hope your Monday is a special start to a new and wonderful week dear friend!

    Hugs ~

  5. Ah... lovely teacups! I've got a number of the luster teacups with transferware violets on them myself. There's just something deeply underrated about the sweet simplicity of the violet.

  19. Hi Rhondi!
I adore violets! I used to gather them in huge hadfulls in the spring at my grandparents farm. Grandma had the usual purple violets and a big area of yellow violets that grew in her shady back yard:>) I have some violet cups & saucers too. Thanks for sharing your beauties!

  27. Dear Rhondi,
Sugar, please; no milk. I'll take the first teacup -- light blue. they are all so beautiful, though! Violets are one of my favorite flowers -- they grow wild in our lawn in the spring, and I won't let the lawn guys mow them!
    xoxo,
    Mary

  30. What lovely pieces to have inherited, I love old china pieces. What is it about violets, that most of us like. I have tiny violets in my garden and a collection of violet perfume bottles, even though I hate the smell of the perfume, they tend to come in very pretty packaging! x
