Home Alone

Home alone today. The kids and grand kids have headed back home. I'm going to take the day to relax, maybe read, putter a little bit. For the last 10 days I've been visiting with family or friends, or driving. I just loved spending the time with my daughter and visiting with loved ones, and having the grands here, but I will enjoy the quiet of today too.

Here is the finished king size quilt I made for my cousin in PA. Here it is on her bed. She gave me carte blanche when it came to deciding on a pattern and I was a little worried that maybe it wouldn't look good in the room since I didn't really remember what the room looked like.
It goes perfectly in her bedroom. If I had a picture in front of me when I was designing it I couldn't have chosen anything more suitable. She loved it and appreciated all the work so that was very satisfying for me.
I have a lot of catching up to do, but I'll get around to visiting you as soon as I can.
Oh, I just realised today is Thursday! I am thankful for all my family and also for the fact that everyone loves each other and gets along so well.
It's fun to go away but I am always glad to be back home.

Girls' Road Trip

My daughter and I are going on a road trip. We are visiting a cousin in PA and then heading to Canada to visit my sister and her girls and their children in Havelock Ontario. Then we'll drive through Toronto and go to Ancaster to visit another cousin and some old friends. I am going to a pajama party with some old girlfriends who I've known since we were about the age of the little girl in this photo!
It will be a busy trip and we'll be arriving back home at the same time as the grand kids arrive at our house. See you when I get back!

Thankful Thursday

Thursday is almost over and I have been too busy to post until now.
Today I am thankful for all you wonderful people who read my blog and comment. You are the best! You are so generous with your compliments and you leave me comments even when I don't get around to visiting you for a long time. You respond to my silly questions. You are warm and kind and encouraging and I appreciate each and every one of you so much.

So today on this Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for you!

In case you're wondering why I have pictures of snow today, I thought it might make you feel cooler if you are experiencing HOT weather like we are ;)

A Lazy Day

Good morning my dear friends. Today is overcast and rainy, the kind of day you have to turn on the lights in the house. It is a welcome change after all the very hot sunny weather we have had so far this summer. I love days like this once in a while. The house feels cosy.

It's the kind of day that is perfect for pouring a cup of tea and curling up with a good book, but that's what I did yesterday when it was sunny and hot!

We went to the 8:30 service at church and when we got home the temperature was still quite pleasant, so John and I sat in the rocking chairs on the front porch and read until it got too hot. I spent the whole rest of the day inside reading Savannah's Garden by Debbie Macomber. What an indulgence to just read a book all day long, uninterrupted. It was a good story and an easy read and I finished it by late afternoon.

If I hadn't spent yesterday reading a book, that's what I would want to do today, but a girl's got to do some work sometime. So off I go to start the laundry, get out the vacuum, scrub the bathrooms and dust. I don't like doing housework but I love the end result when the house is all clean.
I hope I don't get too sidetracked, because you know what happens when you clean: the fluffing and puttering often takes over.... that's the fun part!

I'm glad you stopped by for a visit today. I'll put the kettle on for some tea.

Fun To Look At

Today I just want to show you a few colorful fun things I saw while we were away.
We stopped in Savannah for lunch on our way to Beaufort and ate at Soho South Cafe. The colors in this painting on the wall made my heart happy. If the girl in the painting had a blog I would be a fan for sure. Oh and the lunch was great too!We visited a couple of shops in Port Royale which is just next to Beaufort. Don't you love the colors on these?
This store in Port Royale was really fun too.

A metal bench with metal flowers behind it sat on the front porch.
Inside the "kitchen" section of the shop
A fun window display. I wanted to take home that yellow table that had chairs to match.
Isn't this planter cute? Definitely an idea worth copying :)
A wind chime made of pots and pans hung outside.
Next time I'll take you for a stroll through Beaufort and show you some of the beautiful homes. Wait until you see them. They are amazing!

Meanwhile today I am starting to machine quilt a king size quilt , a big job that I'm not looking forward to, but I've put it off for as long as I can. I've got some relaxing music playing which I hope will help and I plan to take lots of breaks.
What are you doing today?

Thankful Thursday

On this Thursday I am thankful that we were able to go away for a few days for our 40 th anniversary and stay at the Cuthbert House Inn, a beautiful bed and breakfast in Beaufort SC. They even had a deal that if you booked for Sunday and Monday, Tuesday night was free, so we got to stay for three nights instead of only two.
It was a beautiful place.with a wonderful view of the water from the front verandah.
We stayed in The Garden Room. The beds were so high I almost needed a ladder to get into it.
This was where we ate our breakfast every morning.
Here is the sunroom.
This is the elegant living room where they served drinks and appetizers each evening.
We had a wonderful time, felt totally pampered and I am so thankful for it.
What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for my husband John. Here is a recent picture of him with our daughter at a wedding. It is our 40th wedding anniversary on July 5th and I am thankful to have such a good man to have shared those years with. When we said our vows" for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health" we had no idea how true those words would be in our lives. There have indeed been times when we have experienced rich poor sickness and health, but thanks to a loving God we have weathered the storms and can celebrate 40 years of our marriage.
Thank you John for all the ways you've been there for me, supported me, provided for me and loved me and our children.
So today I am thankful for my husband and 40 years of marriage. We are going away for a few days to celebrate. Have a happy July 4th!
What are you thankful for today?

Just a Thought

"Measure wealth not by the things you have but by the things you have for which you would not take money." author unknown.

One blog I love to read is A Year From Oak Cottage. This morning I read this quote there and just had to share it with you. If you've never visited Marie, you are in for a real treat. She always has an interesting story or an encouraging word and food that will make your mouth water! If you stop by be sure to tell her I sent you.
So how wealthy are you today?

Happy Canada Day to all my Canadians friends!
