Dreaming of Cottages

I dropped my camera and it broke, so I haven't been able to take any pictures since my last post.

I have been dreaming  about living in a lovely little cottage.   There is something romantic about the idea of a cottage isn't there? Isn't dreaming fun?  You can have whatever you want. I  love to dream because it's free!  No decisions to be made about price, or practicality etc.

Maybe a thatched roof cottage in England surrounded by a beautiful garden, in a charming little town where my friends stop by every afternooon about 4 for a nice cup of tea and a chat.

Or maybe a little stone cottage in Carmel  rubbing shoulders with millionaires, with the Pacific Ocean nearby.

Or a little cottage in the woods with a porch for enjoying the fresh air and the only the sound is of birds

Maybe  a cottage high on a cliff with a view of the ocean, and the sound of crashing waves lulling me to sleep every night.

Maybe a cottage right at the edge of a  lake where I can rise early in the morning, take my tea down to the dock and enjoy watching the mist rise off the lake and maybe hear the loons.

Just imagining living in  these cottages makes me feel relaxed.  Now how am I going to decorate them?  I'll have to save that dreaming for another day.

What would your dream cottage look like?

Hope you enjoy the holiday weekend.

  1. I often feel as though I'm living in my dream cottage - there's no where else I'd rather be. However....if money were not object, I'd be in a sun-bleached cottage with a porch on a sand beach of the Pacific - probably in Oregon!

  3. I could move right in to any of these cottages. I love the little thatched roof cottage the best, I think, but I would move it to the woods near a beach! lol! I love the best of both worlds!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend, Rhondi!

  4. Oh, I love those cottages! The one in the woods or the one at the beach would be my first choice. We are vacationing on the Oregon Coast this week - maybe I should go find a sweet, little cottage and save a trip back to find it later! Dream on!

  5. I adore cottages of all styles. I could happily live in any one of these charming little homes. I will say though that I am quite fond of Hugh Comstock's Cotswald Cottages. It would be like living in a fairy tale. Have a wonderful weekend Rhondi!!

  6. Yes, I like to dream. And, I like your dream cottages. I would be happy in any one of them. Perhaps we can all get cottages, and be next door neighbors.

  9. Mine would look like that red one by the lake. I grew up in a red house on a lake in Michigan and I would love to move back into my old home...
Well, except for the long winters - lol.

  12. Rhondi, so happy to see a post from you. I truly miss you! These cottages are all wonderful. I think I'd like one overlooking the ocean with a path down to the beach. I love to take morning or evening walks on the beach and feel the sand between my toes. Have you visited conghaile Cottage? If not you must go see Donna's lovely blog and the beautiful home she and her husband created.
Have a great weekend. ~ Sarah

  14. I love cottages too. My parents have a vacation home in the mountains of NC that I love to visit. I posted about it recently on several of my blog posts. I look forward to meeting you at Penny's blogger's brunch in October. I love to quilt too. Your paper pieced red quilt is gorgeous. I paper pieced Karen Stone's New York Beauty if you are familiar with her work. I live in Greensboro. Love & blessings from NC!

  15. Hi Rhondi, I was so excited when I saw your name on the list to visit Penny in Oct. This time I am able to go to the blog party. BIG smile here. I am looking forward to meeting you.

I really enjoyed your dream cottages. I think I am living in my dream cottage/mountain home. We LOVE living in the mountains and we have a dream view. Three of my sister's live nearby. It would be perfect if my children were closer. I think your home is beautiful. At least what you have shared on your blog. Smile.

I am sorry about your camera. It happened to Dana's (The Stone Rabbit) camera when she dropped it as well. I have a wrist strap on mine. I think it would a good idea to put the strap on my wrist. HA!

    Have a lovely evening.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  17. Homes over here are so different from over there! You seem to have much more space than we do. I would love to live in that gorgeous "chocolate box" thatched cottage. There would be a huge farmhouse kitchen - ultra modern of course but with cottagey features like an Aga range. It would need to have ancient polished oak floors with beautiful rugs everywhere and an inglenook fireplace in the living room. Money would have to be no object because I want my cottage to be warm and welcoming. Warm enough so you don't need to always wear winter clothes or think twice before you go into another room or leave a door open! I want to be able to leave a light on when I'm out so it can welcome me home. I don't want it to be near the sea or on a lake (can't swim) or in a wood (too dark) but in a pretty English village, with a village green and duck pond.

Not much to ask is it?

  19. Hi Rhondi
Cute cottages! I like the one on the lake!
Sorry to hear about your camera. How did we survive years ago without all these little things? LOL
Have a fun and safe weekend.

  20. Hi Rhondi! Thanks for stopping by and I am so looking forward to meeting you at Penny's. Wow, all these cottages are so beautiful. But to answer your question... I am not sure if you have seen The Holiday, but the girl named Iris lives in a cottage in the English countryside and it is beautiful. That is my perfect cottage. :)

  24. Mine would look like the cottage overlooking the ocean. In fact we lived in a house overlooking the sea of Abaco in the Bahamas in a small cottage very much like that one.

The red one at the lake would be my second choice. It looks very peaceful and I like red houses.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you in October at Penny's get-together. Sorry your camera is out of commission. It's frustrating when cameras and computers don't work.

    See you soon,
    Sam

  26. Hi Rhondi, sure love all these cottages. Some of my husbands family live in Carmel and I have a few books on the subject of the Carmel Cottages. Your first picture is the "Hansel" built in 1924; and there is another named "Gretel" designed and built by Hugh Comstock. Evidently he built them to house his wife Mayotta Brown's "Otsy-Totsy" dolls. But there are so many darling cottages in Carmel and the surrounding areas. I have always loved visiting and checking out the artsy things all the local artists make. Just thought you would like a little history on the "Hansel House" - have a wonderful week!
