Words

I love words. I love to read wonderful descriptive passages in a book. I like the sound of certain words, like whisper and bubble and slippery. I love the look of words written in beautiful calligraphy. All over our house I have words.
I have antique samplers in frames.
Old plaques reminding me of eternal truths and causing me to remember my Grandma's house where a plaque like this hung on the wall. I like fun sayings in colorful posters. I like to incorporate words into my quilts. A wonderful old marriage blessing hangs in our bedroom. I like to group pictures with words.
I did this crosstitch of Proverbs 31. My sister painted this one. This is what I want our home to be. I like original artwork with scripture . Another vintage print. There is a little story to go with this one. I got it at a garage sale years ago and on the back there is an inscription saying that it was 1st prize given to "Somers Peat for repetition of scripture." I showed it to my 75 year old aunt because I knew she loved things like that and I showed her the back because I thought it was interesting. She said in surprise, "I knew Somers Peat". So I figure this picture must be almost a 100 years old.

Words on my kitchen window sill.

Words above the sink. I painted these words above the kitchen window. I love this one. Someone wrote on the back that it was quoted by King George VI at the end of his annual Christmas radio message. It's from a poem by Marcus Tilley. This my last one is perhaps my favorite. When I was very young, maybe 9 or 10 I remember a book of quotes my dad had and I recall loving this little poem in it. So when I found it one day when I was out thrifting, I was thrilled.
It sums up my philosophy of life.
So my dear blogging friends, know that I am thinking about you today and sending a smile your way. Hope some of these words may encourage you today.
Rhondi xo

  7. Hi Rhondi, I love all of your words of wisdom! They are all unique and so pretty! I missed sending a post to your garden porch party. The last few weeks have been hectic around here! But I am off to enjoy those that were posted! What a wonderful idea you had! Your Hydrangea bush is beautiful! It was 100-102 degrees here this weekend, and 98 today! My little plants are holding their own so far, but I am babying them like crazy! LOL!

    Take Care! ~Rhonda ;)

  8. Hi Rhondi,
Thanks for coming to visit me at my new blog. I am already beginning to see how blogging can be addictive.
For some reason I have a large gap between my 2 posts. Do you have any ideas on why that might have happened?
I enjoyed reading your signs today. My Mom was always a lover of the written word and had several signs and sayings around her house. She would sometimes be disappointed whan she thought her guests didn't take the time to read them, but I always told her if she enjoyed them that's all that matters.

Keep cool. I hear we will be back in the 80s later this week. Hip hip hooray!!

  12. There's a woman in my church who is now in her 90s and once was a missionary in Brazil - Miss Helen. Invariably when you meet her she says, "This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" I love that you have that verse over your kitchen sink - I've thought often of painting it above the mirror in my bathroom so I would be reminded each morning. Unfortunately, I do not have your talent! Blessings, marlene

  30. Rhondi, I understand if you don't want to accept the award, but I think you misunderstood. This is not on the post where you list six things about yourself; this is an award that was given to you for excellence in artwork and blogging. It's called the Arte y Pico Award. The post following it was a tag game. Go here:
    http://thyme-for-herbs.blogspot.com/2008/06/i-am-honored.html
No hurt feelings if you decide not to show it on your blog :)

  32. Hello Rhondi,

What a nice entry about all these words. The last were the best!

About my blue coathooks: I didn't paint them myself, we got it as a present when the children were still very young. I like it very much, also because each hook has its own flower on it.

Have a nice day & hugs, Carolien
