Veteran's Day

ah_vets_day[1]

Today is Veteran's Day here in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. It is a day we take the time to honor our veterans. I think America has lost the whole concept of honor. We used to honor people older than ourselves, people in authority. We don't any more and it's sad to me.

Whenever I see a person in the military, I always go up to them and shake their hand and say "Thank you". I am amazed at how much that touches them. One time we paid for the groceries ( it wasn't a lot) of the guy in line in front of us who was in a uniform. He told us after that he was heading off to his 3rd stint in Afghanistan! That small gesture meant a lot to him. I'm not telling you this to brag, but to give you the idea of honoring our military men and women.

Today if you can, thank someone who is willing to put their life on the line for other's freedom.

Thank you to all the people in our armed forces. I appreciate and value what you do.

  10. Here in England our 'formal' Remembrance Day was Sunday 8th. It's always a Sunday, the nearest Sunday to 11/11, when the Queen leads the nation in honouring the dead of both world wars and all the other conflicts since then.

Until a few years ago the emphasis was firmly in the 2 world wars and younger people were getting so they couldn't see the point in 'remembering' something they only knew about from history books. Sadly the Falklands, Bosnia, Afganistan, Iraq and so on have shown them exactly what the point is.

Personally I think anyone who can go the places they go, do what they have to do, see what they see and all with the knowledge that they may never see home again - they are special people who deserve our utmost respect.

    love, Angie, xx

  13. What a great post. We have a lady in our church...she is 91 and a shut in...and she calls every single veteran in our church to thank them. If she can do it...so can we!

  14. I always try to say 'thank you' to anyone I see in military uniform. Those two little words, I believe, help to make it possible for each man and woman in the service to go about their day in these hard times.

Nov. 11 was also my parents wedding day in 1942 during WW2. Although they are gone, I still like to remember them especially on this day.
