Another Hole in the Wall

I'm always having ideas to change things in our home. Occasionally I have moved all the furniture and turned the dining room into the living room and vice versa. Or I change out alot of the accessories , changing the color scheme of the room without spending money. One of my favorite things to do involves putting another hole in the wall. That's what I did this week. I took down all these plates which were in my studio because I want it to be more colorful, reflecting the style of quilts I make and the blue and white I have going on in there is too restricting. I took my handy hammer and nails and hung some of the plates in the dining room.
They are on either side of the china cabinet.
So now this leaves me with a problem....I have a bare space above the windows in my studio! I am thinking of bright colored plates, like fiesta ware, something in bright colors. I am sure I have a few plates around here somewhere! Just need to get some more plate hangers. My vision is that when you step into my sewing studio you'll feel like you're stepping into one of my quilts.

Okay, let me see where else I can hang something and make another hole in the wall...

Hope you're having a great day. It's raining here and we really need it.

  1. Hi Rhondi,
I like what you have done with the plates in your dining room. How did you ever get them lined up so perfectly?
Wasn't the rain a welcome sight?

    Have a nice day,

  3. Hi Rhondi!
I love those blue & white plates against your red walls! Fabulous! I can hardly wait to see what you come up with for your studio. I love the post on your Ralph Lauren bed. What a great look you came up with.
I think you are right about the magazine idea about bloggers. Wouldn't it be incredible? Now all we need is backers with LOTS of $$ and know how!! LOL But seriously, we could keep it going for a long long time with all the talented people we know in the Land of Blog!

  4. Hi Rhondi,
I love this post. Funny, I have big plans to go home and do some of the same things when I get home. I love to rearrange. My family jokes that if it has been more than a week since they visited then they better check before they sit down- the chair has probably moved.

I've got plate hangers on my shopping list too- much to my husband's chagrin. He doesn't get the plate thing. I will show him your post so that maybe he believes me this time that others do it too. He prefers to eat off of them!

Hope you are having a good week!
    Hugs!

  5. Before we bought this house, when we were between houses, we rented for a year. When we left the owner told me I had 172 nail holes in the walls. It was a really big house. Really. :) Blessings, marlene

  10. My favorite colors: red, white and blue! And not for patriotic reasons. Just like them. I love the idea of making it like a quilt. I use to quilt all the time. I've too much arthritis from surgeries to do it any more. Loved it! But I treasure the quilts I hand-sewed and hand-quilted!

  11. How funny as at first I read this thinking you literally were putting a hole in the wall. A big hole...not one for a nail. LOL! Your plates look nice in the dining room and I am sure you will find a nice selection of colorful plates for the studio. I will look forward to seeing what you choose for this spot. What about a series of color patchwork blocks framed instead of plates?

    Hugs ~

  20. Your plates look great in the manner in which you displayed them! I tried to see if any of the blue plates were from the Johnson Bros. series "Liberty Blue-Colonial Scenes".

I LOVE your Ralph L. bed set at such a thrifty price! Arent't you just thrilled when you find great deals like you did and they all go together so well!

  22. It drives my husband CRAZY when I put more holes in the wall to hang thinga, lol. I love what you did with your beautiful blue and white plates. I have begun using the "on command" adhesive hangers for pictures and things. No holes and they supposedly come right off when you pull on the adhesive tab.

  23. I invariably end up taking off half the plaster when I knock a hole in the wall! I like the way you have hung your plates, you have done well to get the measurements right. x

  24. I really like the plates in the DR, and I can see how going w/ the one color scheme in your studio would be restricting.
Instead of plates, you could hang small quilt squares, embroidered pieces, lace, favorite fabrics, cross-stitch, etc. that would inspire you. Because they are light you could hang them w/ sticky-tack or those cool 3-M hooks that don't make holes!

  27. Good morning, Rhondi!

Because I have moved across the country a few times, I've had to lighten my china load. :< I'm hoping to start collecting them again but there is one set of dishes I've hung onto and that's my blue and white Currier and Ives dishes. Sometimes I get tired of them and they stay hidden but seeing your blue and while against the red wall gives me some ideas...

Thanks for taking the time to take the pics, posting them and then talking about them. It gives me some much needed "girl time" that was really lacking in my life.

Have an excedingly, abundantly blessed day!
