Hibernating

If you come for a visit you won't see this sign hanging on my front door. You won't find me lying in the hammock.

Or sitting on the deck reading a book.

Or on the upper deck enjoying a cup of tea. You won't find us on the front porch enjoying a glass of chilled wine at the end of the day.You won't find me outside at all. I will be in the air conditioned house, working on a quilt and hibernating until the weather cools down. It's just too hot for me. Just like a big old bear, I'll come out of hibernation when the weather changes. Anyone else out there like me?

  1. I am like that too when it gets too hot. By the end of summer we've usually just had enough! Strangely though it has been cooler here in Oklahoma than usual. It's pouring down rain right now which is a blessing!

  2. I'm the same way. I kick on the a/c, grab a book and just "chill". In all honesty though, while we have had some hot days, overall this has been a mild summer for us. None the less I am ready for Autumn.
    Enjoy your day!

  3. The older I get, the more I stay away from the heat. But here in Arkansas too it has been cooler and is again raining. Usually by this time every thing is burned up but not this year. I haven't even had to water my plants.

  4. We don't get really hot weather on the Island, but we did have one hot week this summer - we just opened all the windows every night and closed them in the morning to retain the cool air. Your solution sounds like a good one for a hot climate like yours! I've blogged in a similar vein, about how to get through a wet summer day!
    Enjoy your productive hibernation, Rhondi!

  5. Yes, air conditioning is one of the things that make life so pleasant in Southern California, it won't cool down for at least a couple more months. August & September are our hottest months. Sounds like a great plan and I look forward to the photos. The photos of your outdoor areas bring serenity into my hectic world. Thanks for sharing them.

  6. Hi Rhondi,
It has been so hot here too! I plan on staying indoors today also. I have a lot of things that I need to get done around the house today. Laundry being one of them! Fun! I might even paint inside. I have a hutch that needs finishing.

  7. Rhondi, I live in Florida and you can imagine how hot it gets. But this year seems to be not as hot as the norm. We still have 2-3 months of warm weather left and then it doesn't get cold except maybe in January and February. During the day I love to play in my little studio but in the afternoon I love to sit in the swing (if it is too hot I bring my electric fan) just gotta have a little outside time.

  10. I am with you..staying inside. The hot weather bothers me..so I am one of those that goes from one airconditioned area to another. Great time to get some sewing done. The barn chores are done as quickly as possible..lol. I swear if I had the money the barn would be airconditioned also..lol.lol.

  11. Anything over 80 degrees and I'm an indoors girl. This summer has been so pleasant and cool in Michigan and then this week it heated up like a house on fire. I'm staying inside til things cool down:>)

  12. We stay inside until evening. When the sun sets here in the mountains it cools off pretty quickly. Stay cool!

  14. Not me...I love the heat!!! Warm summer nights, playing in the pool, spaghetti straps and thongs, those are the things I love about summer. BUT...I'm glad it only lasts a couple of months!

  16. Oh boy can I ever relate to this post. I went out once today to water my plants and felt like I was melting. Even though I have lived here for 10 years I still find it strange to hibernate in the summer. Growing up in Michigan we could hardly wait for summer and then when it did arrive we spent as much time as we could outside before the long, cold winter set in.

Hopefully it won't be too long before you can be outside again as you have such beautiful spots to relax in. I love your blue chairs and the little girl planter with the blue polka dot dress.

  17. This is the first warm weather we've had all summer so I'm doing my best to enjoy it while it lasts. I have complained a little bit about it today but only because I couldn't go for a swim. Our summer is always too short and winter too long but this year it's even more so.

Love your blog by the way. :)

  19. It is way to hot in Texas to do anything but hibernate!!! over 20 days of over 100 degrees this summer - so I am doing a lot of puttering around the indoors- try to stay cool!!

  20. I realized that I am only a fair weather gardner. It was 101 here yesterday.
I noticed I had left my car in the driveway withour the sun screen on the front windshield and that was enough to keep me from driving anywhere.
I found a silly game on facebook called Farmville and I'm tending my cyber farm inside in the airconditioning.

  21. AC is a MUST in both the house and the car. Couldn't live without cool dry air. It has been very hot and humid but tonight the air is very pleasant and there is a slight breeze. We turned the AC off and opened all the windows. That is nice after having the air on for quite a few days. A lot less expensive too!!

  22. If it's to hot there, it's been raining straight here. What a contrast huh? Oh, I would love to see the quilt ones you've come out of it :-)

  23. Yes I do Rhondi - I like you!

It's funny you should say that about your sign. We've got one and it never gets used either - mainly because we forget to put it on the door. When I think of all the times I made such signs with cardboard and black marker!

    love, Angie, xx
