It’s summer and what better treat that juicy ripe tomatoes still warm from the garden. They bear no resemblance to those pale pink tomatoes that my local grocery store sells the rest of the year! Let’s make a sandwich.
Slice the tomatoes.
Toast some whole wheat bread and spread it generously with mayonnaise. I like Kraft reduced fat mayo made with olive oil. It’s very flavorful. Season with salt and pepper.
Add a glass of cold milk. My favorite summer sandwich. Yummy!
What is your favorite summer food?
Rhondi xo
Rhondi,
ReplyDeleteI agree, nothing better than home grown tomatoes. Especially those that come from the South. Your sandwich also can't be beat. Some time when "pork fat rules" wins out we put a couple of slices of bacon on there. Yummy....

Tomato sandwiches will do for me Rhondi (that's tom-ah-to I mean!).
ReplyDeleteI like cucumber sandwiches too - just fresh white bread spread with Philadelphia cheese (with or without flavouring)and plenty of lovely cucumber (not the gherkin type) then sprinkled with salt and black pepper. Or even leave out the Phili and spread the bread with butter.
But my absolute favourite way for either tomato or cucumber is to make them and then leave them wrapped up for a few hours so they get a little bit soggy. You wouldn't want to offer them to company but just for on your own! Mmm, cloud 9!
love, Angie, xx
Oh I do love tomato sandwiches but it has to be Hellman's mayo for me. You're very lucky to have tomotes this summer. My garden didn't produce much of anything because we've had such a weird weather summer.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy them!!
Hi Rhondi,
ReplyDeleteI have been having Tomatoe's sandwiches all week! It's delicious and good for my budget these days! I see you love my Honorine Jobert....She makes a lot a babies...if you want one next spring, you know now where to get one....Have a nice week-end,
France
We absolutely love them too. Tomatoes, Hellman's, salt and pepper. Very simple and delicious.
ReplyDeleteWe also love a good PB&J!
I love fresh garden tomatoes. With fresh mozerella, basil, olive oil, sea salt and freshly cracked pepper.
ReplyDeleteOH! And fresh corn on the cob with melted butter...
Mmmmm that looks so good! And those tomatoes are so big and juicy looking. I am so jealous. We live in the desert so it's hard to grow anything here.
ReplyDeleteIt's been so hot this summer so I've been drinking fruit smoothies. It's become my favorite summer treat!
Gosh, is it possible to eat too many tomatoes? I hope not because sometimes a meal for me is just sliced tomatoes and salt. I dread the winter when I can't find fresh tomatoes, I would rather not have any at all if they aren't vine riped. Your tomatoes look delicious, think I will make a plate of sliced ones now. YUMMY!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning,
ReplyDeleteThat is my very favorite summer food! Tomato sandwiches! Especially fresh tomatoes from our garden. :o)
Have a nice day!
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Yummy, yummy, yummy!
ReplyDeleteI like my tomato sandwiches with Kraft light Miracle Whip and a glass of cold milk on the side.
I've written about tomatoes too! i love a tomato sandwich with a little coarse grain salt sprinkled on. MMMMM!
ReplyDeleteI love summer tomatoes too! And my husband's favorite summer food IS the tomato sandwich. My favorite meal though, happens to be spaghetti and meatballs and a green salad. Unfortunately I don't do this meal anymore (except for the salad!) because I could eat the whole meal myself!
ReplyDeleteTomatoes ~ hands down! Through four summer pregnancies eons ago I lived on them. Surprised I didn't deliver tomato colored babies!!!
ReplyDeleteYummy! You inspired my lunch today.
ReplyDeleteIs that what we've been buying in the supermarket to put in our salads, tomatoes? Ya' just can't beat the taste of a real homegrown tomato yet a big old cold sweet juicy watermelon takes the cake for me. Enjoy this days produce!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...your killin me!! Those fresh tomatoes are making my mouth water and I can just taste the tang from the sandwich!! Think I will go and make myself one right away!!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous rest of the day!
Hugs xOxO, Nerina :)
Your photos look good enough to eat. Our generous neighbor has been giving us baskets of tomatoes from his garden, so I've enjoyed lots of yummy sandwiches. Also, I've made spaghetti sauce and salsa.
ReplyDeleteI think one of my favorite summer foods is blueberries. I eat them every morning.
The quilts in your sidebar are gorgeous - did you make them?
Oh yeah!! That how I like mine - although I can skip the toasting the bread part! Is there anything more delish...I think not!

Yum! I can't wait to own land so I can grow my own tomatoes!!
ReplyDeleteVine ripened tomatoes sliced on a "BLT" is my summer favorite! (incase anyone has forgotten what BLT is - Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato) They taste the best and we have them coming outta our ears at the moment!

Nothing better than a fresh tomato! We are finally getting a few from our garden. Peaches are almost ready too. Mimi
ReplyDeleteOur big tomatoes are just beginning to turn pink but those photos make me want to go outside and encourage them to ripen somehow! As the song says "There's only to things that money can't buy, and that's true love and homegrown tomatoes":>)
ReplyDeleteThose sandwiches look really yummy! Love homegrown tomatoes. Will not even slice a store bought one for a sandwich! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by for a visit. I hope to see you more and read your comments. I look forward to getting to know you better.
ReplyDeleteI love and miss the taste of home grown tomatoes. We are in SW Florida right now and stuff down here tastes like hot house. Plants need good dirt not sand to grow in.
Cheri
That's what i love about summer, the freshness of everything! Your tomato sandwich looks yum, Rhondi!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite is tomato salad with sweet red onion, basil, fresh mozzarella, drizzled with olive oil, salt/pepper to taste...yummy!
Oh yummy! I've been eating so many tomato sandwiches lately, but I never get tired of them.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Donna
Oh, how I would love to have a good home grown tomato sandwich!!
ReplyDeleteKatherine
Yum Yum! It's too hot here in Florida for growing tomatoes now.
ReplyDeleteThe ONLY thing wrong with that sandwich is that it should have been homemade bread! My mouth is watering!
ReplyDeleteSo yummy! My favorite summer food is mixed salad. Ilove rucula!

Good morning Rhondi :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had some tomatoes right now, because that sandwich looks delicious!! I think a trip to the store is in order ;)

Delicious! I love tomatoes and have eaten them all my life and tomato sandwiches are such a big favourite so I'm really temted by your your mouth watering pictures Rhondi. Not enough sun in our northern region of England to ripen them really well so shop bought ones are our only option!!
ReplyDeleteI'm already starting to dread when all of the tomatoes are gone! Your sandwich looks delicious. When they are in season, I eat at least one tomato a day-love 'em. laurie
ReplyDeleteWow, that sandwich looks terrific. There is nothing like just off the vine tomatoes, you are right. Our tomatoes aren't so great this year.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great being able to gather such fabulous tomatoes everywhere for a few months.....then we crash when Winter comes and they are gone!
ReplyDeleteLove them like this in a sandwich, also sliced and layered with fresh mozzarella, basil, EVOO, fresh cracked pepper and a tiny sprinkle of French herbed sea salt. Yum, think I'll make a sandwich for lunch today......after I get back from the dentist!!!
Enjoy!!
Oh yes, tomato sandwiches, like this, are heavenly! So simple but so, so delicious.
ReplyDeleteWell, right now YOUR sandwich is my favorite summer food - oh my! That looks so good Rhondi!!!
ReplyDelete(((((hugs)))))
