Jain at Once in a Blue Moon and Food For Thought is an avid reader and an amazing cook. She had this wonderful idea to cook dishes or meals that were mentioned in the books she reads. I didn't realize how many times food was mentioned until I decided to join her. So today she is hosting "an edible book review."
My book is The French Gardener. by Santa Montefiore.
A neglected garden. A cottage that holds a secret. A mysterious Frenchman (handsome, naturally). A family in need of some love. These elements are entwined in this heartwarming novel. If you enjoy reading Maeve Binchy and Rosamunde Pilcher, I know you will enjoy this book.
Apple and blackberry crumble was the food I chose to make.
This is my first time to make apple blackberry crumble/cobbler and it was so delicious with ice cream, especially while it was still warm and the ice cream melted a little bit.
Thanks Jain, for hositng this fun day! Now make sure you go on over to Food For Thought where you will find some other wonderful "edible book reviews."
Hope you have a great weekend.
Rhondi xo
OH what a fun idea! I will have to try this.
ReplyDeleteYour apple blackberry cobbler looks delicious!
What a yummy idea Rhondi!! I'll have to do this! I love your new header by the way. Your colour sense and style are impeccable!
ReplyDeleteI have used books such as 'Bella Tuscany'to take recipes from. There is always something new!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea. I love reading books and the dessert sounds interesting. We love cobblers at our house, but never thought to add apples. May make one up.
ReplyDeleteWillow
Thank, Rhondi, for the book review. It sounds like just my type of book. And the cobbler? Oh my it looks good...if I could just reach through the computer screen. Snow/iced in today? xo,
ReplyDeleteYou are NOT helping my diet! LOL
ReplyDeleteMy book club always makes something mentioned in the book we have just read for our "snack" the night of our meeting to discuss the book. It's fun to see what each hostess comes up with! PAM
ReplyDeleteI loved that book! The cobbler looks very yummy....did you get alot of snow? We have about 11 inches.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
That's a clever idea, Rhondi. And it looks delicious! Enjoy the snow today and hope you can stay in!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I have been reading some Amish novels lately...can you imagine all the food that is in them? Are you getting snow? We have 6 inches on the ground and more to come later today. Right now it is sleeting and that is going to make it trecherous out there.
ReplyDeleteThat's a neat idea! I'm often amazed reading books that they put so much detail into the foods. We absolutely want to eat what they are making.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. Your dessert looks delicious. Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy are 2 of my favorite authors, so I know this is a book for me. As soon as our bad weather goes away, I am going out to buy it.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea, Rhondi, but I'm going to leave the reviews to the rest of you. I am an inveterate reader, but I would never remember to be thinking of recipes when I am reading.
ReplyDeleteIf this book inspired that heavenly cobbler, I'm going to have to read it!!
Hi Rhondi,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea(I love Jains blogs) and I will have to look for that book as it sounds like a good one for me.
Enjoy your weekend,
Carolyn
Fabulous Rhondi and total temptation to all of us who are trying to shed a few pounds after Xmas! It looks seriously good so I shall have to give it a go. Adore your white table and chairs by the way. I'd love to paint my table which is almost identical to yours but it belonged to my grandma so is a bit of an heirloom and I'd be in real trouble if it became white....such a shame. Have a great weekend, love Eli
ReplyDelete... perfect combo ~~ food and books!
ReplyDeleteRhondi, that cobbler looks delicious, and your book review made me want to put this one on my ever-growing list of books to read. laurie
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea- I will have to do that the next time I find a food mentioned in a book. If you have read the Mitford series - I do LOVE the orange marmalade cake they all talk about- HEHE thanks again for the cute idea!
ReplyDeleteI like your creative outlook on life! By the way do you have a favorite Pie crust recipe that you would share?
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful idea this was and i want a big bowl of your cobbler so badly. i may need to run to the store and make some!!
ReplyDeleteMy Mom loves Maeve Binchy books so I just ordered this one from our library for her. Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteLinda
I believe I could smell that crumble!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look for the book - nothing like a recommendation from someone who shares one's taste.
Mmmmmm! Both the book and the dessert are making me hungry for them. Thank you for this book recommendation...I love both Binchy and Pilcher so I'm going to look for Montefiore!

Thank you Rhondi for the book recommendations - just another thing that is so great about blogging! Have located The French Gardener as an audiobook on iTunes & will be off to download it for reading after I get my new knee later this month. I miss Rosalind Pilcher's writing so much and this sounds like a nice read in the same genre. Have you read Garden Spells?
ReplyDeleteRhondi, I'm a little late getting around to all the entrants in Jain's Food For Thought meme but I'm glad I stopped by your blog this morning! I've been here before to admire your quilts & I love your style!
ReplyDeleteThe book is intriguing & your cobbler looks yummalicious! :D Very well done & I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next.
fondly,
Rett
p.s. I think your copyright statement is one of the nicest I have ever seen on the net! So gracious & polite.
Hi Rhondi,
ReplyDeleteNIce to meet you through Food for Thought. I absolutely adore blackberry cobbler and the apples take it to a new level. The French Gardener looks like a great book-will have to add it to my stack.
Looks like a very pleasant read to while away these dreary winter days. I strongly suspect it would be the perfect read accompanied by a piece of that luscious looking cobbler...
