Thankful Thursday

We have been watching the news, seeing the attack in Georgia and watching the Olympics as I'm sure many of you have. Wasn't the opening ceremonies an amazing production! I got to thinking what it would be like to live in those countries, one under attack and one controlled by communism. As I thought about it I became very thankful that I lived here in the United States, where we have freedom. So today I am thankful that I live in America.

What are you thankful for today?

Saturday at Home

Today was such a beautiful day. I was surprised to find it was cool enough this morning to open the windows to let the fresh air in for a little while. Oh how I love to have the windows open.

Everything in the garden needs water and today is the only day we are allowed to use our sprinklers, so I got them going very early and moved them around all day. Everything in the garden looks a little happier now. I think I saw the daisies smiling and heard the azaleas saying "thank you". These salvias are definitely looking perkier.
I haven't been going to garage sales lately but there was an estate sale advertised very close to where we live so I popped in. Everything was expensive. I passed by two other yard sale signs, so on my way back home I stopped at them. I got this lovely 6" pitcher.

and a cute pair of salt and peppers Did you notice they have checks on them?
This is everything I got: the pitcher, the salt and peppers, a big ginger jar, another little pitcher and a plate. I only paid $10 for the whole lot. I'd say I did pretty well, wouldn't you? Of course I really don't need another blue plate, but for only $1, I couldn't pass it up!
We haven't sat out on the deck for a couple of weeks because it's been too hot and humid, so this afternoon, I was finally able to make a cup of tea, get my book and some magazines and go outside to enjoy our beautiful backyard.
I love looking up at the trees which make a beautiful canopy overhead. Isn't it beautiful?
It feels like a beautiful lacy green ceiling.

Oh my goodness! What is that? I've never noticed that before! Is it a wasp's nest or a bee's nest?
I think I'll go and sit on the upper part of the deck, away from it. Yikes!!
What a nice relaxing Saturday! Hope that your day was as satisfying as mine was.

Thankful Thursday

Today is the day when I take a moment to be thankful. There are other bloggers joining me today. Just click on the Thankful Thursday button on my sidebar on the right where I have listed them. It is such a blessing reading what others are thankful for, so I hope you have time to visit them. If you want to join us and post what you're thankful for each Thursday, just let me know and I'll add you to the list. Today I am thankful for the word of God. Years ago when I had little or no faith I thought that the bible was boring, restricting, out dated, and definitely not relevant for me in this modern age we are in. But once I put my faith and trust in God, I began to see what an amazing book it is and how it is able to speak to everyone, down through the generations.

When I am needing guidance: "I am the Lord your God who teaches you what is best for you and directs you in the way you should go." Isaiah 48:17

When I am tired: "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. " Matthew 11:28

When I am worried: "Do not worry about anything but instead with prayer and thanksgiving , make your requests known to God and the peace that transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and mind." Philipians 4: 6&7

Sometimes when I am I am especially concerned about our finances , I will just "happen" to read Matthew 6: 25-34 "do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or what you will wear...your heavenly Father knows that you need them." God is even concerned about what I will wear!

I could go on and on.

So, today I am thankful for God's word. What are you thankful for today?

Checks

I love checks, especially black and white, blue and white, and red and white! They are so crisp and clean looking. Just some random shots I took around the house. I also love polka dots, but I'll save that for another day.
I am off to Wing Haven today( the garden where I volunteer) to plan the plant orders for our fall sale in the nursery. Here in NC, the fall is the best time to plant new things.
Hope you have a good day.

A Surprise Visit

We had a delightful surprise this weekend. At the last minute, our son and his wife decided to come back and visit us for a couple of days on their way home to Texas. So we got to spend some more time with the best grandchildren in the world. What a blessing it was for us to see them twice this summer!
Needless to say I've done nothing for the past couple of days except play with them, so I haven't even looked at my blog, to see who has left a comment or been to visit any of you. I plan to stop by and visit all of you dear blogging friends over the next few days. I haven't forgotten you!
Decided to have a new banner for the new month. Those cupcakes in the previous one were a little stale! Sunflowers black eyed susans and daisies say "summer" to me.
See you soon.

Extreme Home Makeover

This week Extreme Home Makeover is doing a house in our city, so my daughter and I went to see it on demolition day. Here are a few photos. They are almost finished crunching the house to pieces.

This is Rib Hollis, one of the designers. Look at those muscles!!
We were lucky enough to get a picture of my daughter, and Ty the star of the show. She was thrilled. He was really nice and let quite a few people take their picture with him. We made a fun memory that day.

Hope you have a great weekend
