Happy new year!
Another year begins and I wonder what it will bring. This past year has been very stressful so I am glad to put it behind me!
Last January I posted about reading a book where the house was named Rest and Be Thankful. Ever since I read that book, which was years ago I have thought it would be fun to give that name to our home. Our home is a just a standard 3 bedroom 2 bath red brick ranch and is certainly much too ordinary to have a name, but name it I plan to do. So today I bought some wood to paint a sign for over the front door and our home is officially named Rest And Be Thankful.
I just love the whole idea of rest and be thankful. That's what I want for my life this year and that's what I want for anyone who steps inside our house.
Wouldn't it be easy to rest and be thankful in this room? It belongs to my new blogging friend, Carolyn who lives in Prince Edward Island. Her home and garden are absolutely wonderful and I know you will love visiting her. Tell her I sent you!
Today is Thursday and I usually have a thankful thursday post but today I'm not listing anything. Instead I thought I would try to have an attitude of thankfulness all through the day.
Jesus said, "Come to me all you who are heavy laden and weary and you will find rest for your souls." That's where I'm going to find my rest today and I'm thankful I can do that.
Hope you enjoy this first day of the new year!

What a wonderful name for your home! Rest and Be Thankful. I know we all could benefit from that! I am off to visit your new friend. I think she might like the pillows I am giving away on my Comforts of Home Blog!

Hi Rhondi,
ReplyDeleteThank you for that nice tribute.I just looked out at that little restful spot and smiled as it is pretty white out there now with all the snow. But the way time flies it won't be long until I will be able to snuggle in there with a cup of tea and the Victoria magazine again.
Take care.
Carolyn
Happy New Year Rhondi!

I don't believe any home is too humble to have a name, and I think you chose the perfect one! Happy New Year and God bless you throughout 2009!
ReplyDeleteSounds simply magical!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Happy New year Rhondi. That really is a lovely name for a home and I know from the photos you have shown on your blog, it will be perfect for yours. Your home and garden always look like such a welcoming and restful place.

Helo Rhondi, I'm a new follower of your blog (and a new blogger myself.) I just wanted to say I think is wonderful that you've chosen that name for your home. I've always thought homes with names are so lovely, so why more of us name our homes? You've given me food for thought...
ReplyDeleteI wish you a very wonderful New Year, Rhondi! I feel the same as you--08 was a very stressful year, indeed. I truly believe becoming a blogger this year helped me "survive" the stresses that were sent my way. I met the best people---YOU are right up there at the top of my list. Your blog is always a peaceful spot to visit--it doesn't come through that you have stresses--you hide it well.
ReplyDeleteI love the thought of naming your home. I just might have to give that some serious thought, too!
Anyway, I look forward to many, many visits to your blog in 09!!! Dana
Happy New Year, Rhondi! I hope that 2009 will be a wonderful one for you and your family. Your friend's room is charming!
ReplyDeleteI just returned from NC yesterday, leaving a big part of my heart behind- parents, siblings, daughters, grandchildren... so I needed this reminder to have an attitude of thankfulness.
Rhondi,
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and leaving a sweet comment. It is very much appreciated.
I love the name 'Rest and Be Thankful!" I wish I had thought of it first! Somehow it would not suit my ADD household, or maybe it would?! I can't wait to visit and see that sign hanging over your front door. Maybe you should make signs for every room in the house, in case you forget?!

I love the idea of naming your house. When we moved out it here it's the first thing I did. I remember that in Denmark many people name their houses - no house is too humble - and that always stayed with me.
ReplyDeleteWith you for inspiration, maybe more of us will name our homes. After all they are the places we get nurturing and replenishing.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know I could rest and be thankful in that room. What a wonderful name for your home. laurie
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful to have a friend like Jesus, and for discovering your beautiful blog.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I think it's great that you named your house and a very good name it is. You changed the singer but I still love the song. He is very good too.

Happy New Year Rhondi,
ReplyDeleteThat porch is heavenly. I love it when people name their homes. We used to call my mom's home "Our Dear Little House."
Blessings, Karen
What a beautiful name for you home. It already reflects its name. Happy New Year, Rhondi. May 2009 be full of rich blessings for you.
