There is an online bloggers' quilt festival going on at Amy's Park City Girl blog today.
I am showing my favorite quilt. I named it Blue Plate Special. It's is 63" x63".
It is my own original design and the second quilt I ever made. I was inspired by the first quilt I made, called The Blue Collection, designed by Maggie Walker. Since I collect blue and white china I thought it would be fun to design my own quilt and use my collection as the inspiration. It is hand appliqued and hand quilted and I'm very proud of it because I won first prize in the applique division in our guild quilt show and I also won viewer's choice.
All the objects in the quilt are in our home and I tried my best to use fabric that was close to the pattern on the china. The vine represents the magnolia tree espaliered against the wall of our house. The pink flowers were in planters at the back door.
If you click here. you can see the quilt that inspired me, which I also hand appliqued and hand quilted and you can see the Blue Plate Special hanging on the wall in the front hall. Right now it hangs in the living room which I wrote about in this post.
There are so many wonderful quilts over at Amy's. Thank you Amy for putting on this wonderful event.
Make sure you visit her. I know you're going to enjoy the Blogger's Quilt Festival.
Rhondi xo
Rhondi, it amazes me that this is your second quilt! You must be an amazing seamstress to begin with. This is so beautiful. I am just beginning to quilt and just saw another post about the quilt festival so I'm heading over there:>) Thanks for sharing this lovely work of art!
ReplyDeleteRhondi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info regarding the quilt festival. I'll be checking it out. I didn't realize until this AM that your yellow and blue and white was designed by Maggie Walker. Don't you love her? I am doing her design Garden Party. It is a very long (62"x32") narrow quilt. I have changed just a little to make it a topper for the double window in my kitchen. If you are not familiar with that pattern it is wonderful roosters, and fowl that she has designed. Can't wait to get it hung. I'm hoping I'll have it in its new home for the holidays. Thanks for the festival info, again. Always love seeing your beautiful quilts.

ReplyDeleteLove to hook up with bloggers who aren't afraid to design their own! Your quilt is fabulous. I'll be following your blog from now on. Thanks so much for entering.
ReplyDeleteHi Rhondi, I always admire your blue quilt when I visit your blog but never realised it was based on your own china collection. What a wonderful idea. Have you ever thought of making a second one with inspiration from some of the pieces you have collected recently. You have such a lot blue and white in a less traditional style and the two would make a great contrast (your rabbits and hens would make great centrepieces!!)
ReplyDeleteThis is only your second quilt. how exquisite and I know my mum would love that (instead of having the real china which currently we don't have space at all).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your award winning quilt. I love the blue and the fact that it represents your collection of china. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat's only the second quilt you made? Amazing.
ReplyDeleteNot only is the quilt lovely, but I appreciate the humor involved in the naming.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful handicraft, I love quilts and blue. I popped back to your old post and love the armchair covers too. Thanks for re-visiting my blog recently, it was lovely to hear from you. x
ReplyDeleteI love it! It is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi Rhondi! Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment on my quilt post. I don't know if it was bravery so much as a momentary lapse in sanity when I decided to jump in and make my first quilt as a wedding gift, but it seemed to have turned out already. I was actually just talking with the bride last night, who hadn't realized it was my first quilt, and she was pretty shocked!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with this quilt! You're second quilt is way more complicated then my second quilt! I love that you tried to match the fabric as closely as you could to your own china pattern. You did an amazing job!
Oh my goodness, it's so beautiful. Congrats on your award.
ReplyDeleteBreath taking absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteRhondi,
