Happy Fall Y'all

Happy fall y’all!  Fall officially starts Sept 23 4:21 am  The weather felt like fall today so it was a perfect day to do a little fall decorating.

First thing I did was pick some flowers in the woods down the street.

Then I added a few things to the mantle in our living room.
It looks pretty with the candlelight.
The glow of the candle reflects off the brass lamp which gives light to the pumpkins I painted

A few more bits and pieces finish it off: brass deer, brass candlesticks, initial and flowers. Some fake bittersweet lining the mantle to finish it off.
I also decorated the hutch in the kitchen

Some fake gourds and a pumpkin soup tureen.  Can’t wait for it to get cool enough for me to serve soup from it!
A teapot with a broken handle from my grandmother and a little 60 cent plate I bought at Value Village today.
Solidago from our garden.  This always makes me think of fireworks.

That’s it for fall decor around here.  Happy fall y’all.
What do you do for fall around your house?

Autumn Decor

Outside signs of autumn decor are everywhere: trees are changing color, pumpkins are plentiful.  Time to bring a little of that autumn color inside.  I’m not a fan of autumn colors.  I prefer the blue, white, yellow, green.

Fortunately orange goes great with blue, so these poppies and pumpkin are perfect.
The mantel gets a new look.

A beaded metal pumpkin holds a little votive candle.

Some green apples sit in some blue and white china.

A $4 stack of baskets  and a $1 metal tin from yard sales sit in front.

A cozy throw, from Restoration Hardware, $2 at a yard sale and a new green cover for the pillow make things feel cozier.
A pumpkin soup tureen, $3 at GW sits on a table, and an orange quilt is folded below.

A little coziness for my autumn decor.

September Garden

It’s September and my garden is a mess!  As soon as it turns hot my poor garden gets ignored, so my September garden never looks good.  Right now it is full of weeds.  The neighbors have a mimosa tree that drops a gazillion seeds in our garden and I think every one of them has sprouted!  But in amongst the weeds there are some pretty things growing.

The sedum is beautiful. This one is called “autumn joy”.

Our beauty berry bush is loaded with these beautiful purple berries.

The blossoms on this solidago remind me of fireworks!
The rain lilies are popping up everywhere and they are so cheerful.

I don’t remember planting this begonia in this planter so it might have seeded itself .  Such a delicate blossom and a beautiful color of pink.
So even though the September garden is a mess there is still beauty to be found. There are still flowers blooming among the weeds. Isn’t that how it is with life?  It can be a mess, chaotic, stressful, but if you look hard enough, you can usually find something to be thankful for in the midst of it.

Happy Fall Y'all

It’s the first official day of fall.  The morning air is cooler. The crickets sound is sweeter.  The summer humidity is gone.
With our daughter’s wedding less than 2 weeks away, I haven’t had  time for much fall decor, but I did gather up a few pumpkins from last year and display them in the living room.

Well that’ s it.  Happy fall y’all.

Feeling Like Fall

One of the first signs of fall here are the berries and leaves on our dogwood trees beginning to turn red and the cardinals feasting on them everyday.

The berries on the nandina bushes turn from green to this  beautiful burgundy color and eventually to bright red.  My Mr Rabbit vase is the perfect container for them.
Oops, you can't see his little face... there it is!
You can see here how the berries are changing color.
If you've followed me for very long you will know that I love blue and white and yellow.  I don't know what got into me the other day but I had an urge to make an orange and white quilt!  Orange is definitely a color I seldom use in my house.  I often don't even have an orange pumpkin for Halloween.  Maybe it was because I covered a little pumpkin in orange and white polka dots ( I'll tell you about that project tomorrow).
Maybe it was because we go to Elevation church and our logo is orange and white.  Whatever possessed me, I made a little quilt, just big enough to cover a small table or drape over the arm of a chair.
I haven't actually finished the quilting but put it on the table anyway until I can get time to finish it!
Orange and blue are complimentary colors so they go together very well.  The Goodwill pumpkin that I painted white with blue leaves can be all purpose fall, or ........

turn him around and he's all ready for Halloween!
I took down my blue and white quilt and hung this one.  The warmer colors are cosier for fall and the orange color of the tablecloth  picks up the orange  colors in the quilt.

I have to go to work now but could you come back tomorrow and have a cup of tea with me?  I'd love to have a longer visit with you.
Hope to see you tomorrow

Come For A Walk In The Woods

Every morning, Mr Rose Colored Glasses and I go for a walk and part of our walk takes us through the woods.  For the last week or so one section of the path has been bordered by these beautiful yellow daisy like flowers.  I''ve wanted to show you but I as you may know, I dropped my camera and broke it a few weeks ago.  I'm go glad that I got another camera in time to show you  these flowers before they finish blooming.

They line both sides of the path and are about 3 feet tall.
Aren't they a lovely color of yellow?

It's such a delight to walk here every morning and enjoy the beauty.  I'm glad you were able to join us on our walk today!  Have a great weekend.

Still Dreaming

Dreaming of fall...cool nights, open windows, leaves falling

Dreaming of wearing sweaters, evenings by the fire, simmering pots of hot soup on the stove...

Dreaming of fall.....are you coming soon?
Any signs of fall where you live?

Goodbye

It has been dreary, rainy and windy the last two days and all the beautiful leaves are quickly falling to the ground. We can see much farther in the woods now because the trees are getting quite bare. The beautiful colors of fall are slowly fading. I captured some of the color in a collage before it was all gone. Goodbye beautiful colors of autumn. I'm going to miss you!
