Don't Worry Be Happy

What a day we are living in. I hardly want to listen to the news any more. Every day there is something more discouraging happening. It makes me just want to stay in my little home and "play house".

I have a little book called Streams in the Desert, which I read each morning and this morning the first words I read were" Do not begin to be anxious" The author certainly read my thoughts this morning!
This is what it said: "To be perfectly at peace amid the hurly-burly of daily life is a secret worth knowing. What is the use of worrying? It never made anybody strong; never helped anyone do God's will; never made a way of escape for anyone out of perplexity. Worry spoils lives which could otherwise be useful and beautiful."

For me, trusting in God helps take away the worry.

A soak in the tub can calm and relax those tense muscles that accompany worry.
A nice hot cup of tea can calm you.
A walk in the woods on a beautiful fall day can refresh you and remind you that life goes on, one season always follows the next.
For all of you that are already feeling the effects of our economy's problems, I hope you can find a way to not worry. For me it is knowing there is a God who cares about all of us and who loves our country.

  1. Hi Rhondi ~ I totally agree with you. These are scary times and sometimes I don't even want to turn on the news. I've lost one home to foreclosure and it was quite frightening. That walk in the woods sounds like a wonderful plan to me!

  2. Hi Rhondi,
What a comforting and timely post you have here today. I like the quote about worrying and believe it is true ~ I just wish it wasn't so hard to follow that wisdom.

    Enjoy your day,

  3. We don't hear this message very often in our world. Bad is news and good is forgotten. We are never in charge of things, only God knows how things turn out. We can control what choices we make but there are so many outside things that contribute that we cannot control - and having faith is an aid for the troubled heart. Thanks Rhondi!

Thanks for reminding us of who's really in charge. No problem is too big for Him. And thanks for the beautiful photos...so serene...they made my morning.

  6. Good morning Rhondi -
Oh, I love Streams in the Desert! Isn't it a wonderful book to read and re-read? And today's entry was just perfect. Do you have the companion book she wrote - Springs in the Valley? It's good, too. I have a very old copy of Streams in the Desert that I bought used before I went to college in the 60's (1960's that is!). I 'lived' in that book through my college and young adult years, gaining strength for the changes of life as I grew and matured. And as I went through life's ups and downs. Thank you for sharing from this priceless treasure today. It's so appropriate to the times we live in. And I love the pictures you shared. Yes, a soak in the bathtub is a great idea!

This is a very timely message. Thanks for posting this reminder for us!

I have to admit I've been a little concerned (well, alot concerned)...worried about retirement income, the possibility of having to return to work...and mostly the future for my kids and grandkids! What will the world be like for them?

So, your post really spoke to me! thanks,

  20. One of my favorite sayings is

"Don't worry about tomorrow- God is already there" How true that has always been in my life. Ben is hanging in there and taking each day-thanks for asking and continue to pray my friend!God continues to answer Prayer!!!

  21. Rhondi,
You and I are on the same page. Steams in the Desert is my lifeline, I read it every day. I had to go for a walk on the beach to leave my troubles behind me. Too much news of gloom and doom. My faith is in the Lord, and I went on a getaway today to clear my head of CNN woes and found the best things in life are still free. Blessings, Karen

  22. True words, Rhondi. Do you know the hymn "Be Not Afraid"? It has often been my personal anthem - a good one for these days!

  24. Hi Rhondi, this mess feels like its made the world a much smaller place, everyone is affected in some way. Perhaps William Cowper's poem 'God moves in a mysterious way' has a ring of truth about it (in the 'Poems and wise words' section of my blog). I will look for 'Streams in the Desert' it sounds just my sort of book. Best wishes from England, Eli

  34. Amen! If I listened to all the doom and gloom about my wonderful country, I would also have emigrated years ago like so many South Africans sadly have done! God is moving in South Africa and He is far greater than all the problems we face. God Reigns! Have a lovely weekend. Eleanor

  36. Rhondi: God bless you for putting things in perspective. I am just as guilty as others of being worried in these times. My husband and I are retired, so you can imagine the angst we are going through. I am going to purpose to heed your words and look to the Lord for my peace.

  39. Rhondi,
Worry is such a waste of our precious time. God is in total control.
Remember we all need to pray continually for each other and for God's will.
    No worries God cares.
