A Lazy Day

Good morning my dear friends. Today is overcast and rainy, the kind of day you have to turn on the lights in the house. It is a welcome change after all the very hot sunny weather we have had so far this summer. I love days like this once in a while. The house feels cosy.

It's the kind of day that is perfect for pouring a cup of tea and curling up with a good book, but that's what I did yesterday when it was sunny and hot!

We went to the 8:30 service at church and when we got home the temperature was still quite pleasant, so John and I sat in the rocking chairs on the front porch and read until it got too hot. I spent the whole rest of the day inside reading Savannah's Garden by Debbie Macomber. What an indulgence to just read a book all day long, uninterrupted. It was a good story and an easy read and I finished it by late afternoon.

If I hadn't spent yesterday reading a book, that's what I would want to do today, but a girl's got to do some work sometime. So off I go to start the laundry, get out the vacuum, scrub the bathrooms and dust. I don't like doing housework but I love the end result when the house is all clean.
I hope I don't get too sidetracked, because you know what happens when you clean: the fluffing and puttering often takes over.... that's the fun part!

I'm glad you stopped by for a visit today. I'll put the kettle on for some tea.

Rhondi xo

  1. Hi Rhondi,

Your home sure looks all cozy. We, too, have had a lot of those rainy, dark, turn-the-lamps-on kinda days lately. Hope "my" little b&w lamp is still brightening up your dreary days. ;)

I love Debbie Macomber! When I'm not reading blogs, I love to read her.

  2. It's hot and dry here today. A little rain would be nice. I like the result but not the cleaning too. Mimi

  3. It's a relief to even look at the picture of your home with shadows. It's so hot here we desperately need relief.

  4. That sounds like a good day to me. I love those days. I have that same book but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'm glad to hear that it is a good book. Maybe one day I will be able to sit down and have a relaxing day like that.

  5. LOL! Yes cleaning always involves a bit of fluffing for me. I'm going to have my lazy day today. We had storms all night and I didn't sleep well so I don't really feel like doing much. I'm going to flip through some old magaznes and I have a Netflix movie to watch.

    Have fun cleaning and fluffing!

  6. I love reading Debbie Macomber's books, they leave you with a good feeling!
Wish we had rain here! Our temp today will be 113. At least that is what the news says. lol, I think it is hotter!
    Take Care,

  7. Hi, Rhondi -
We're having one of those kind of days here today, too. I'd love to stay home and read but I have an appointment and then back home to do some desk work for my chaplain ministry. I love Debbie Macomber's books, especially Susannah's Garden. Have a good day - even though you're doing housework. Hope you get a chance to relax a bit before the day is over!

  8. A wonderful quiet day is just the best. Now on with reality. Hugs, Marty

  9. It sounded like you had a great day. One of my favorite things to do is to crawl into my big ole comfy chair with a lap quilt and read a book. Also with a candle burning on the table and a cup of tea to sip.

  10. What a great day you had yesterday! Would love to be able to do that with my hubby! But life is always so busy around here. Sometimes I hardly have time to stop! My house needs some cleaning as well, but that will have to wait for another day. Of course I could be doing my cleaning instead of on the computer right now, but I have priorities!!! Anyway, I have just a few minutes before i head out the door to run my son somewhere. Enjoy your week!

  11. We always have that sort of day on a Sunday, settle down after church with the weekend newspapers, potter in the garden, lovely!

  12. Rhondi, I can think of nothing better (except to paint) than to read a book on a rainy day. The weather here in Florida has been so hot but with AC we stay comfortable.

I love your drapes and the mirror behind the chair.

  13. Hi Rhondi,
    I enjoy a rainy day too-occasionally!
I also read that book awhile ago and enjoyed it too.
Today is a strawberry picking day for me.

  14. I love a good book and a snuggly blanket! Usually I have to wait till the kids go to bed for that though as they always are interrupting me for something! Enjoy your cleaning! :0)

  15. Hi Rhondi, Your blog is so inviting...I was gone for a few days and now I'm catching up...The post before this one looked like fun! I like going shopping in little towns you find such neat things. I loved the store with the kitchen section... there were so many things I would have liked to have bought... So your having a rainy day, we are sunny and warm but I would rather have your rainy day so I could curl up with a few magazines......Thank you for the tea and the sweet conversation! hugs, Jennifer

  16. I bought that book at a thrift shop and thought that even if I didn't read it I loved the picture on the front cover. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I will have to make it a point to read it.

  17. What a perfect day to rest and read. We had a very busy weekend.
I know what you mean that cleaning leads to lots of fluffing but that's what we all love to do, Fluff.
    Enjoy your day,

  18. Hello Rhondi,
I also love those days when it's raining and it is a dark day,it can be so cosy inside. But not to many of these days when it is summer of course. When I was reading your post I made myself a nice cup of tea too.
    Have a lovely week,hugs Ingrid.

  19. I love to spend a lazy day reading on the porch or on the swing. I'll have to take out Debbie MacComber from the library. I'm always on the look out for a good book.

  20. Lucky you. I love Debbie Macomber books. What a lovely way to spend a wet day.

  21. How inviting your decor & the lovely setting ... I'll be right over. TTFN ~Marydon

  22. Too hot for hot tea, but sure would enjoy some iced tea and a good book. Thanks for the recommendation on the Macomber book. Sally

  23. A cozy day at home reading....sounds heavenly! I read that book last year and loved it. I know how you feel about cleaning...after so many years I got tired of it but it is a necessity and it does make you feel so good when everything is clean!

  24. Thank you so much for stopping by-it is so nice to meet you. I enjoyed reading about your day and I feel relaxed and refreshed just reading about it. Have a wonderful week.

  25. Hi dear Rhondi... is always such delight coming here... I can sense a bright, clean aura and feel peace and serenity when I come here... May you continue to be blessed...

  26. That does look like such a cozy spot to sit and read. Love that mirror propped against the wall, and your window treatments are so pretty. Sounds like a wonderful afternoon. laurie

  27. A Day of Rest! We should all heed this and do it each Sunday! ;-)

  28. Sounds like a wonderful day! Glad you got to have a little R&R.:)

  29. Sounds like a good day, Rhondi. I spent part of Sunday watching a pool full of wiggly, giggly children swim and play and then eat birthday cake and ice cream and swim and play some more! It was a very, very good day. :-)

Monday was a slower day, but it's been good, too. We've had showers mixed with sun. Glad you're having nice weather...

    Sheila :-)

  30. Hi Rhondi, I wish we could have a rainy day. It has been so hot here in Southern California where I live. Around 100 today and tomorrow will be hotter.

Thanks so very much for taking the time to leave a comment. I always read every one. I am glad you stopped by for a visit. Hope you'll come again!
