Fall Flowers

What is your opinion of fake flowers? I'm not a big fan, but sometimes when there are no flowers in my garden I have this bouquet of fake daisies on the table.

But this time of year I have beautiful daisy type mums and a yellow helianthus in my garden so I can have real flowers!  From a distance they look almost identical.

But up close...
...you can tell they are real because you can see part of a little ant hiding behind one of the yellow petals!  When I shook the flowers lots of ants fell off but I guess this one was extra strong.

One of the nicest places to put fresh flowers is on the kitchen windowsill.  Then as I am scrubbing pots and pans or peeling potatoes I have something pretty to look at.   I have these blue bottles, which I've had forever, but you could use anything. It will cheer you up!
When you have fresh flowers in your house it's like having sunshine inside.    I am lucky today because the sun is shining outside too!

Try bringing some sunshine inside today!

  1. Your flowers are gorgeous. So nice to have some fresh ones that you can just cut and bring inside. Most of mine are always faux. Love the beauty of the yellow and white with the blue. Hugs, Marty

  2. I believe that the Yellow ones are called Black eyed susans.

I do not own any fake flowers because I honestly hate having to dust them. I do love pretty bright real flowers though. I love how they liven up a room.

  3. This is a great post! Fake flowers are ok as long as they look good (and aren't dusty!). I've been blessed with real flowers from our garden this summer--and a fresh batch this weekend! It is really hard to tell the difference in your excellent photos! Sorry you will miss BBC. :-(

  5. Hello Rhondi1 The French do both beautiful and awful fake flowers! The awful ones are seen in the cemeteries and are very vivid in colour and dont look real at all. The beautiful ones are very expensive and look it!
I love to have just one rose, or one flower in a vase, it is so cheering.

  7. Sooo beautiful!
And...here's a super.simple.solution for dusty fake flowers. Hot, sudsy water ( I use Dawn) and simply dunk and swish the flower and allow to air dry. Brings them back to 'life' and you can also give them a quick little spray of fabric-safe room freshener. If the flowers are an arrangement, permanently 'planted' in a container, same process, just swish upside down and 'hang' to dry :) Hope this helps!

  8. I say, 'use whatever you have and whatever brings you joy'! Fake or real, the flowers are cheery and bring sunshine into one's day.

  11. I love your post showing your pretty flowers. It doesn't matter to me if they are real or fake. As long as they are not in some strange color that couldn't possibly be found in nature, I use them and enjoy them. The quilt on your table is very pretty. Blue and yellow along with touches of white are so pleasing to the eye.

  12. Rhondi, these are so pretty. That little fellow is a real survivor.

I almost always have some fresh flowers in my kitchen, too. I always stick with fresn instead of fake. I try very hard to have something blooming in my yard most of the years. The camellias help me out a lot during the winter.

  13. You are so right about how fresh flowers inside cheer you up. They are so cheap now at the grocery or Wally World that I buy them all winter-cause I am miserable in the winter when I can't get out and enjoy my gardens.

  14. So glad I came across your post today, Rhondi. As a florist, I've begun researching reasons why people love to have flowers around. I'd like to take that info and have it inform how I do business. What a joy it was to read your words and see your simple yet beautiful flowers! Thanks so much!
