Repurposing, Sewing and Fluffing

Hello dear friends,
I haven't posted in a long time, but I did a little project on Saturday which I'd like to share with you. These pillows used to be a tablecloth.  It had a few small holes in it and was no longer useful as a tablecloth and it was too pretty just to leave in a drawer somewhere.  I figured there had to be some use for it. I like the fun and challenge of  repurposing things so I used it to make covers for 2 huge down-filled cushions I bought at a yard sale awhile ago.  They are 24" x24".  I like the handmade look of the embroidery on them.

They look good tucked behind these smaller cushions I sewed last year.

When I see cushions in magazines, they are always pushed down in the middle like this.   I'm not sure which way I like them better.  What do you think?
Making these pillow covers is so easy, no zipper or anything.  If you'd like to know how just let me know.

It was so nice chatting with you today.  Hope you have a great day!

  2. I love the idea of reusing a tablecloth for your lovely pillows. I've seen pillows pushed down in the middle, too, but have no idea why as I'm not a decorator!♥♫

  3. Hi, Rhondi, your new cushion covers are brilliant! I like them plumped up neat and square, not squashed in the middle, but that's just a personal preference. If my husband tidies up, he always squashes them down in the middle. Or rests them so that they are standing on the point of a corner, a look I don't like at all. But if I'm lucky enough to get someone else to tidy up, I make it a point never to complain! :o)

  5. I'm glad you were able to re-use that lovely tablecloth, Rhondi. It is beautiful piece of fabric. Coincidentally, I have six pillows in the guest room, all made from a table cloth I found at Kohl's that was just the perfect print. As to the 'squash or not to squash' question. I think it's just to show that the pillows are down and have been 'plumped'. I find it rather an affectation - I like them square.

  7. Rhondi, it makes me smile to see a post from you. I miss your beautiful photos and thoughtful words.
I agree, this textile is too pretty not to be enjoyed. The pillows were a perfect choice.

  8. Why hello, nice to hear from you and always nice to see a re-purpose project. I personally enjoy them nice and plump. That tablecloth turned into fantastic pillows, thanks for sharing!

I would love to know which method of closing you used and maybe a little detail of the edge of the pillows too. :) I have been on a major sewing kick myself lately but with only mediocre camera (on my cell phone) to use for pictures my blogging has suffered immensely!

  12. Your pillows are pretty! I'm glad to see them and how nice they look..being that they are square. I bought two large square down filled pillows that seem too big for our queen size bed. But maybe I just need two smaller pillows that are also square in front of them? I"d love to get mine to 'work' Did you just overlap the back I wonder...

  13. Great repurpose, Rhondi, and they look just perfect. I am not one for the "karate chop" look with pillows. I like my plump and poofy.

    Think of you often.♥

  14. Wonderful! I love the way they both look in the second picture. What a smartie you are to think of doing this. They look great together. I enlarged that picture and was excited to see the first print had little teacups. Can't see that in the small size. A lover of teacups....
Now, if you are, please come and visit Lady B and me. We love teacups, teapots, afternoon tea outings, pretty tea things. If you do too, we are having a giveaway, you may be interested in.
