After four days, it's done. Remember when I painted my kitchen lime green? Well I just loved it with all my blue and white china, but when I looked into the kitchen from our red dining room or the TV room which also has a lot of red , it really bothered me. So, I knew the green had to go.
Here's the new color combination in the kitchen. I gathered up all the red and some of the yellow things I had and mixed them with my favorite blue and white china.
I painted the walls the same yellow which I have in other parts of our home. This little print I had is perfect.
I painted the hutch the same red as the dining room walls. When I hung those plates on my dining room wall last week and saw how good they looked against the red, I knew this would be a great look.
This fun Mary Engelbreit rug came out of a guest bedroom. It was a great find about 5 years ago. It's about 4 feet square and I got it on sale for only $15.
I removed the doors from the cabinet above the stove and filled it with more things. I still have to paint the inside of that today. The space above the cabinets will have blue and white plates again but I need to find a couple of red and white ones to add a little variety, so they're not up yet.

Picking up the red and white with some accessories on the counters.
A friend of mine painted those little people. They are salt and peppers
I thought this picture looked good on the counter too.
The little salt and peppers I found last week fit in perfectly.
Hope you have a great weekend.

The blue glass is still in the window. It is actually cobalt blue, not aqua like it looks in the photo, so it is a perfect color with the red and yellow. I'll replace a couple of the plates with red and white when I find them.
Looking from the kitchen into the dining room. It pleases my eye so much better than when it was green.
Looking from the kitchen into the TV room. So much better.
Looking from the dining room into the kitchen and beyond into my studio. Everything flows together nicely. If you click on this photo it will enlarge and you can see something new I am doing in my studio.
I am so happy with how it all turned out and all it cost me was 2 gallons of paint. The room still need some more tweaking, but I love how it's turned out so far.

It all looks great Rhondi! You have been painting so much. Are you almost done so you can come here and help me? :) The red really sets off the blue and white china. My mother is too funny as we are talking online and both looking at your blog. She is saying over and over that you are her kind of girl and she could live in your house.
ReplyDeleteThe studio is going to look great. That must be so much work to do all those checks.
Hugs ~

Not only do I love your music, I LOVE YOUR HOUSE, you like all the colors I do. That rug is darling. What a find. The blue and white china in that great red hutch. Wow. Can you come paint for me now???? I am planning a red, white and blue patriotic kitchen and starting very soon.

Oh my goodness you have been a busy lady. I love the color combination. But then it is exactly what I have in my kitchen too, so I love it even more. My walls are that same yellow and I love the way it looks with the blue and white. My husband gave me a red coffee maker for Christmas. The red touches look so cheerful.

ReplyDeleteHave a super weekend.
wow! I love red furniture and all decoration!love the colors, love the looks...congrat! super!
ReplyDeletevisit me anytime....
It all looks so happy and cheerful!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I am "re-discovering" my blue and yellow soul after a few unhappy years and I have been thinking a lot about my kitchen! Yours is SO inspiring!
ReplyDeleteFunny side note- when I moved into my house five years ago I was inspired by a dining room I saw on tv that was lime green with blue toile and blue & white dishes. I thought it was so pretty! I also got distracted by some gorgeous red toile and went completely high contrast instead of sticking with the blue and white. After a few years I had to paint it over! Family pictures taken at the dining table should not have a lime green background!
I'm so happy to find your happy blog! I came via Cindy at My Romantic Home.
Rhondi, I just found your blog through Charlotte. I love the way you decorate and put colors together. I have never had that gift, but I will soon have more time to develop those skills. If you don't mind, I will come back often to see how you do things. Have a lovely day, Kathi
