Just a reminder in the midst of this busy season. Take some time to rest and be thankful!

My Talented Sister
When my sister came to visit she brought me a present: a new mailbox that she painted for me! Isn't it bright and cheerful?
She even took off the old one and installed the new one! Aren't I a lucky girl?
I had a wonderful time visiting with my sister. She is a very talented artist, so while she was here I got her to paint a sign for our house. If you've visited me before you may recall that I decided to give our home a name "REST AND BE THANKFUL". Here is the sign she painted for me which I am going to place above our front door.

Rest and Be Thankful
Happy new year!
Another year begins and I wonder what it will bring. This past year has been very stressful so I am glad to put it behind me!
Last January I posted about reading a book where the house was named Rest and Be Thankful. Ever since I read that book, which was years ago I have thought it would be fun to give that name to our home. Our home is a just a standard 3 bedroom 2 bath red brick ranch and is certainly much too ordinary to have a name, but name it I plan to do. So today I bought some wood to paint a sign for over the front door and our home is officially named Rest And Be Thankful.
I just love the whole idea of rest and be thankful. That's what I want for my life this year and that's what I want for anyone who steps inside our house.
Wouldn't it be easy to rest and be thankful in this room? It belongs to my new blogging friend, Carolyn who lives in Prince Edward Island. Her home and garden are absolutely wonderful and I know you will love visiting her. Tell her I sent you!
Today is Thursday and I usually have a thankful thursday post but today I'm not listing anything. Instead I thought I would try to have an attitude of thankfulness all through the day.
Jesus said, "Come to me all you who are heavy laden and weary and you will find rest for your souls." That's where I'm going to find my rest today and I'm thankful I can do that.
Hope you enjoy this first day of the new year!

Rest and Be Thankful
Yesterday my friend Kathleen Grace over at Kathy's Cottage, commented on their blog that she wondering if looking at the beautiful homes in decorating magazines was making her discontented with her own home. It got me to thinking about being thankful for what we have. Am I thankful? So I began to write a list. After I did the usual: family, provision, shelter and health, I had to stretch my thinking a little further, but the more I thought about it the longer the list grew! I realised I have lots to be thankful for! I even began to think about the negative things that had happened in my life. I was thankful for sickness because it made me appreciate health more, financial problems because it made me more resouceful, hardship because it made me stonger.
Most of the things we bloggers love (homes, thrift shop finds, gardening, crafts, etc) don't really count in the long run. Let's face it some of us just have cars that automatically stop at all yard sales, thrift shops and good stuff on the curb! We can be thankful that we have lots of ideas and will never be bored! Actually if you are creative you HAVE to create, but I'll save that for another time.
Then I wondered if being thankful had health benefits and guess what? It does! I found this article if you're interested.
A number of years ago I read a book called Rest and Be Thankful. The name of the ranch was Rest and Be Thankful. I had forgotten about it until very recently and decided to give that name to our home. It is just a 1960's brick ranch, not really worthy of a name, but I'm naming it and plan to make a "We're glad you came to Rest and Be Thankful, come on in" or words to that effect. I've got a few other projects in the works so this one will have to take a number.
I sure seem to be all over the place today!! As I said the more I thought the more things came to mind. Anyhow this morning I made a list of all the things I am thankful for. (you are one of them!)
