We made necklaces with fabric, ribbon and wood beads. We cut up small pieces of fabric and used a glue stick to glue it to a 20mm wooden bead, carefully stuffing the extra fabric through the holes. Then it was threaded through a piece of yarn or ribbon. Here are a few of the beads we made. I love this necklace: great for Halloween.
Can you pick out the one I made?
I just happened to be wearing this shirt that day and it matched perfectly!
Hope you're enjoying the same wonderful fall weather that we are here in North Carolina.

I love getting together with ladies who quilt or stitch. Sounds like a book ... "Ladies Who Quilt". :) I love your necklace and how fun to use your fabric for this. I think it looks great with your shirt.
ReplyDeleteI am having fun today putting together a package for a blogging friend's daughters. They are getting felt Christmas trees from me to decorate any way they want. I am enlosing a selection of bead and ribbons for them to start playing with. I thought it would be a fun thing for them to do in November and have their own ornaments for the holidays.
By the way, I never used to decorate for Halloween either but have started since I lost my sister. It really made me feel closer to her to add Halloween among my autumn decorations. Oh how she loved to go mad at this time of year.

And a beautiful Wednesday morning to you. That is the cutest necklace.
ReplyDeleteThe women in our adult class at church get together once a month after church to make "stuff". They call it a Bauble study.

What fun! I used to belong to a group YEARS ago that met once a month to make a craft of some sort. We made kitchen witches, corn husk wreaths, went to a pottery place and painted Christmas decorations. It was alot of fun!
ReplyDeleteLove your necklace.

Sounds like fun. I love my play dates with mom making quilts.
ReplyDeleteRhondi,
ReplyDeleteThose necklaces are so cute! I may have to try to figure out how you made them. What fun to that you have a group that gets together.
Great project.

I'm totally inspired by the fabric beads Rhondi and can't wait to give it a go with some rather plain wooden ones I have. I'm wondering if fabric with pictures of blue and white china printed on would produce a realistic 'Delft look'. Many thanks for sharing. Eli
ReplyDeleteYour new necklace looks great with your blouse. The 'playdate' sounds like way to much fun..=)
ReplyDeleteSorry, me again Rhondi. Do you use liquid fabric glue for the beads or the solid stuff on a stick? You have a lot more glues in the States than we do in England. Also, I'm presuming the edge of the fabric is cut on the bias so it won't fray. Thanks, eager to start bedaing, Eli
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! The playdate and the necklace project. Ok, that is 2 great ideas! I have the same questions as flutterbypatch. I will have to check back to see you again. Oh, and thanks for visiting me too.
ReplyDeleteI just use a solid glue stick, just one of the basic ones that you would just use for paper. I cut the fabric on the straight edge. The rough edge gets stuffed inside the hole so it is out of sight.
ReplyDeleteHope that anserss the question
Hugs, rhondi
Oh that turned out so lovely! It really is just perfect with your blouse. Aren't those also the colors you have in your kitchen? It suits you just right!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun seeing the necklaces that the other ladies came up with too! My favorites (besides yours!)are the black furry one and the one in the lovely neutral tones.

those are really cute! I want to look through my stash and see if I have some beads to try out your technique.
ReplyDeleteyour necklaces are similar to "Texas Pearls" my mom made back in the 90's. They were a bandana tube and the big beads went in the inside with a pony bead on the outside between each big bead.
