Out For A Sunday Drive

Beth at Olde Tyme Marketplace mentioned on her blog that she was having a weekend celebration for the second anniversary of her shop Olde Tyme Marketplace. It is in the little town of Marshville which is about 30 miles from my house. So I decided to take a Sunday drive out there to visit her. What a delightful shop! It was an old country store and lunch room years ago and still has the lunch counter there. Actually the movie The Color Purple was filmed on the main street of Marshville and the inside of the store was where all the scenes of the restaurant/lunch counter were filmed.

What a delightful shop! Isn't this furniture great?

Here I am with Beth. She is a real sweetheart and I felt like I'd known her all my life.

It has a huge porch the whole length of the store brimming with plants and lots of interesting pieces.
Beth had everything arranged beautifully and everywhere I looked there was something I wanted!

These old quilts tempted me and the vintage apron is very cute.

But it was something in this picture that caught my eye.

I had to rescue this rooster from his cage, although he does look cute in there. These little birds in a basket were a lamp base. When I got home I couldn't decide whether to put the rooster outside on the porch..Or on top of the china cabinet in the dining room. What do you think?Just down the street from Olde Tyme Marketplace was my dream house, a bit of a fixer upper with a huge wrap around porch, only $144,000. It's too far away. Oh but what fun it would be to fix it up! It was wonderful to meet another blogger and to visit her great shop. If you are ever in the area make sure you visit Old Tyme Marketplace in Marshville. You'll be glad you did!

Thank you so much for all of you who took the time to respond to my last post. It was so great to find out where you're from and to meet some new friends. That's what I love about blogging: all of you. You are what makes it so worthwhile!

Rhondi xo

  1. What a fun Sunday trip! I love the rooster, he looks beautiful either place. Your dream house looks just like my dream house, lol, it's gorgeous and $144,00 sounds like a great deal.

  2. Wow what a beautiful store. I would get lost in myself in there!

The rooster looks so nice outside IMO so then when it gets too cold out he can come inside too! LOL

  3. I would so love to visit that store. The quilts looked lovely. Your rooster....where did he settle down eventually, outside or in?!

  4. How much fun was that!! I know you had a ball. Love your dream house. I too love old, old houses. Ours was built in 1916 and we love it. It requires a lot of love, if you know what I mean.

  5. Rhondi,
I am so glad you posted about Olde Tyme Marketplace in Marshville. I see it is on the way to Myrtle Beach so I will make plans to stop as we drive by. I was hoping to find a few places to shop while we are there. I can't wait. Have a great day. Lori

  6. Hi Rhondi,
What a great weekend trip.I would love it there too. I like your rooster on top of your hutch. I agree with you the house would be amazing all fixed up, its fun to dream that is what life is made of dreams.
    Enjoy your day,

  7. That store looks great. I love the porch. The house you like also looks like a great one.
The rooster is too cute. Hope you decided on a home for it. It looked good in both places.

  8. What a very fun Sunday trip! Love the shop. Oh my those quilts were beautiful. And I would love to buy that house, if we were in the market :-)

  9. What a shop! Beth would have no stock left if I went there with a bottomless pot of money. I would have to buy that house just to put all my new treasures in. My word, that is a very low price for the house.

  10. OK, I think Mr Rooster would enjoy the summer on the porch, and appreciate being brought inside for the winter!

That fixer upper house is SO adorable! and 144-grand? Wow, what a bargain ... although there's the cost of fixing it up, but it is just charming -- gorgeous old cottage.

    Aw, go on... buy it!
    We'll all cheer you on!

(You can open it up as a Blogger's Retreat House!)

  11. What a fun place to visit with so much to see. Glad you bought the rooster - he looks great either place. Have a great week. Sally

  12. Hi Rhondi, I love to take rides on Sundays fact, it is one of my favorite things to do.

I love the white rooster....he is just so handsome.

    Hope your day is lovely!!

    Hugs, Barb

  13. Looks like a great shop and nice to meet a fellow blogger!
I like the rooster outside for the summer.

  14. Rhondi!!
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR the beautiful post about your visit to my shop. I appreciate you taking the time to venture out my way...I am so glad you did! It was great to meet you and I look forward to keeping in touch.
The rooster looks fabulous in both spots! Where did he end up?
    So glad we met,

  15. Hi Rhondi, what a nice shop that is, I wish there were more around here like that one. I found quite a few things I would like to see up close.....have a nice week, Hugs Jennifer

  16. I am in love with that daisy bird feeder in that picture you took!!!!! I wish I lived closer to shops like that!...I'm a seriously deprived addict to that kind of shopping...lucky you! :0)

  17. What a fantastic place. I'm so glad you shared it with us.

You rooster looks like a fellow that likes to get around. I would move him around the house to keep him happy. He looks great in both of these spots.

  18. What a lovely day you had! I'd love to visit a shop like that, but sadly, nothing like that is to be found around here.
Why not keep the rooster on the porch for the summer, and let him indoors for the winter?

  19. Blog get togethers are the best. I have only been to one but it was more fun that I had ever imagined. I couldn't keep up. Thanks for sharing.

  20. This looks like my kind of day! I love to find little shops like this where I can wander through and find little treasures!

I think that the rooster will enjoy the porch for some fresh air, but might want to come to the dining room when guests are invited to the table! teehee!

    Bless you,

  21. Thanks so much for sharing that trip. Iloved it.

  22. How wonderful that you got to meet, and even more wonderful of you to share your visit with us! I love the rooster on top of the cabinet! What a lovely store that is. I could easily lose myself in there for hours and hours I am thinking!

  23. What a cute shope! I see lots that would be calling my name!

Rhondi, I had that paint color custom mixed for me. I color matched the hydrangeas that grow by my back door and I painted my door that color. So that was just leftover paint I used on the potting bench. So basically is a deep hydrangea blue.

  24. What a great shop ...... the building is just amazing so full of history and charm... I love that yellow house too..... oooo I had a thought ..... it could be a blogger house ...we could all pitch in an decorate and fix up together ....... wouldn't that be a riot........ that would be some house when we all got done with it lol

  25. I would love to visit that shop sometime. It looks wonderful! Love the rooster you bought, Rhondi. It looks perfect inside or out!

  26. Rhondi, we have twin roosters - mine sits in the kitchen on my counter - I love him because of the fruit around the base, he looks so European!

Lovely shop - perhaps I can come your way after the Summer holidays etc. and we can go shopping there - I'd love to meet you and do something like that.

Very heavy rain today - hydrangeas beaten down to the ground - feel like I need to put umbrellas over them!

  27. Those quilts look so pretty. I'm glad you took home Mr. Rooster though.

  28. What a great store, and how fun to get to meet another blogger! Ya'll look so cute. Your new rooster is great both places you put him. Maybe he should get to go outside sometimes, and stay inside at other times. While I'm tying this comment, I am looking at this gorgeous quit on your sidebar. It is a multi-colored star and there is a red ribbon on it. It is absolutely awesome! laurie

  29. Now I want to take this drive too! It looks like a lot of fun. I think I may have spotted you at Wa mart the other day ...but I just wasn't sure. :-)

  30. I have been hearing so many great things about this shop! I even tried to round up a couple of girlfriends a few weeks ago to go but we couldn't work it out!!! Now I really wanna go after seeing all your pics!!!
