Out For A Sunday Drive

Beth at Olde Tyme Marketplace mentioned on her blog that she was having a weekend celebration for the second anniversary of her shop Olde Tyme Marketplace. It is in the little town of Marshville which is about 30 miles from my house. So I decided to take a Sunday drive out there to visit her. What a delightful shop! It was an old country store and lunch room years ago and still has the lunch counter there. Actually the movie The Color Purple was filmed on the main street of Marshville and the inside of the store was where all the scenes of the restaurant/lunch counter were filmed.

What a delightful shop! Isn't this furniture great?

Here I am with Beth. She is a real sweetheart and I felt like I'd known her all my life.

It has a huge porch the whole length of the store brimming with plants and lots of interesting pieces.
Beth had everything arranged beautifully and everywhere I looked there was something I wanted!

These old quilts tempted me and the vintage apron is very cute.

But it was something in this picture that caught my eye.

I had to rescue this rooster from his cage, although he does look cute in there. These little birds in a basket were a lamp base. When I got home I couldn't decide whether to put the rooster outside on the porch..Or on top of the china cabinet in the dining room. What do you think?Just down the street from Olde Tyme Marketplace was my dream house, a bit of a fixer upper with a huge wrap around porch, only $144,000. It's too far away. Oh but what fun it would be to fix it up! It was wonderful to meet another blogger and to visit her great shop. If you are ever in the area make sure you visit Old Tyme Marketplace in Marshville. You'll be glad you did!

Thank you so much for all of you who took the time to respond to my last post. It was so great to find out where you're from and to meet some new friends. That's what I love about blogging: all of you. You are what makes it so worthwhile!

The rooster looks so nice outside IMO so then when it gets too cold out he can come inside too! LOL

  8. What a shop! Beth would have no stock left if I went there with a bottomless pot of money. I would have to buy that house just to put all my new treasures in. My word, that is a very low price for the house.

  9. OK, I think Mr Rooster would enjoy the summer on the porch, and appreciate being brought inside for the winter!

That fixer upper house is SO adorable! and 144-grand? Wow, what a bargain ... although there's the cost of fixing it up, but it is just charming -- gorgeous old cottage.

    Aw, go on... buy it!
    We'll all cheer you on!

(You can open it up as a Blogger's Retreat House!)

  16. What a fantastic place. I'm so glad you shared it with us.

You rooster looks like a fellow that likes to get around. I would move him around the house to keep him happy. He looks great in both of these spots.

  17. What a lovely day you had! I'd love to visit a shop like that, but sadly, nothing like that is to be found around here.
Why not keep the rooster on the porch for the summer, and let him indoors for the winter?

  19. This looks like my kind of day! I love to find little shops like this where I can wander through and find little treasures!

I think that the rooster will enjoy the porch for some fresh air, but might want to come to the dining room when guests are invited to the table! teehee!

    Bless you,
    Susan

  22. What a cute shope! I see lots that would be calling my name!

Rhondi, I had that paint color custom mixed for me. I color matched the hydrangeas that grow by my back door and I painted my door that color. So that was just leftover paint I used on the potting bench. So basically is a deep hydrangea blue.

  25. Rhondi, we have twin roosters - mine sits in the kitchen on my counter - I love him because of the fruit around the base, he looks so European!

Lovely shop - perhaps I can come your way after the Summer holidays etc. and we can go shopping there - I'd love to meet you and do something like that.

Very heavy rain today - hydrangeas beaten down to the ground - feel like I need to put umbrellas over them!

  27. What a great store, and how fun to get to meet another blogger! Ya'll look so cute. Your new rooster is great both places you put him. Maybe he should get to go outside sometimes, and stay inside at other times. While I'm tying this comment, I am looking at this gorgeous quit on your sidebar. It is a multi-colored star and there is a red ribbon on it. It is absolutely awesome! laurie
