Happy New Year

Hello to all my new and old friends on this first day of a new year.

I gave up making new year's resolutions a long time ago, but on the first day of each new year I usually spend a little time just reflecting on the past year and thinking ahead to the new one. This morning it hit me just how fast the years have gone. Wasn't it just yesterday that we were all worried about Y2K? I was thinking that how the years go by is kind of like collecting. That's why I took a picture of a few of my blue and white plates. I bought one and then another and then before I know it I have a large collection of them.

The years are like that. All of a sudden I have a large collection of years and it happened so fast! I would like to be able to make the years go more slowly!

There is a saying I painted on a kitchen in a previous house:
YESTERDAY IS HISTORY TOMORROW IS A MYSTERY TODAY IS A GIFT THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED THE PRESENT. I don't know who said it, but it reflects what I would have as my goal for this year: just to enjoy the present more and look at every day as a gift from God to be enjoyed and lived to the full and to live more from my heart and less from my head.

In my kitchen now I have this over my kitchen sink window: THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE I WILL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT . It means exactly the same thing.

And just one more quote. I haven't painted this anywheere yet but I am tempted to! This came from a book by Barbara Sher. "It's only too late if you don't start now". So I am starting now. Whatever your plans for the coming year are, I hope that you start now. Thanks for visiting me and for all your kind comments. I look forward to getting to know you better.

  2. Hi, Rhondi, thanks for stopping by. I'm so glad I met you too & look forward to lots more blogging this new year.

I love your blue plate collection, just gorgeous! And I am in the market for a wall saying too. I just saw some of these in a friends house & she got them off Ebay, so I want one now! Got to find just the right one & just the right place for it.

  4. I just love that quote Rhondi! "It's only too late if you don't start now." What a wonderful theme for the new year. I too don't really make resolutions. I simply let life happen. I can only do something about how I react to those things in life anway. I do set goals with my handwork. I then find most of those goals have not been reached as I find too many fun things to do along the way. I am always amazed at how much I have accomplished at the end of a year.

I wish you a creative and inspired New Year! I am looking forward to getting to know you better in 2008.

    Hugs ~

  5. Hi Rhondi, thanks so much for popping over and admiring our (pampered) ginger puss! Recommended author - I think you would love ELizabeth Goudge, an English author very popular in the 40s and 50s, she wrote a very famous children's book called the Little White Horse (which is wonderful for children and adults) but her adult fiction is also brilliant - very family oriented, about overcoming life's struggles and temptations. She uses beautiful writing, and she was a devoted Christian herself - I looked on Amazon.com, and some of her work is still available over on your side of the pond - I highly recommend The Dean's Watch (with a hanky ready at the end, it's a weepy) Gentian Hill, The Scent of Water, The White Witch (historical, and not about witchery as such) The Castle on the Hill, oh, and one of my favs, Pilgrims Inn (which has a different name over here) part of a trilogy, The Bird in the Hand is another part of it. If you do read any, let me know if you enjoy her, she is one of my favourite authors ever, and I like to pass her on to new readers. :) Take care, and - HappyNewYear!

I hope in the new year you will show us the quilt beside your fabric cupboard that you gave us a little peek at earlier.
