Sunday Afternoon WIth A Good Book

Sunday mornings are often very busy for us and some days we are at church as early as 7:45  to volunteer.  So when I have a chance to have a lazy Sunday afternoon I relish it.  All I need is a good reading lamp.

A warm quilt.  Even if it's not a cold day I love to cuddle up under a cozy quilt I made.

A comfy chair to sit in.

and a good book.

I am reading this book and loving it.

It's a novel but it's written as a series of journal entries and so as you read you forget that it's only a novel and get totally engaged in the life of Sarah, the main character.   This book is the first in a series of three, so I am excited to continue the story of Sarah's life when I finish this book.  Jodi at Pleasant Home recommended it and I am so glad she did!

Writing this blog has enriched my life in so many ways and recommendations of good books is one of them.

I have also made friendships with some amazingly creative and thoughtful people like Karen at A Scrapbook of Inspiration.   Karen has wonderful things for sale in her Etsy Shop too. The other day I received this beautiful card in the mail, specially designed for me!

Karen knows I love to make quilts.  Thank you sweet Karen!

So I'm wondering if you are reading something good right now that we might like to read?

Don't forget about my first Tea Party Tuesday tomorrow.  Hope you are going to join me. I'll have it up and ready for you to link by 9:00 tonight.  Please copy my tea party button and use it in your post.  Thanks!

See you tomorrow
Rhondi xo

  1. Hello Rhondi, I love good books..they have enriched my life exceedingly also. The love of reading has been passed down from generation to generation on my Mom's side of the family. A recent light-hearted read that I so enjoyed was..'Positively Pooh'. In fact I bought this little gem. I always enjoy such a pleasant visit to your beautiful posts, thank you! I'll see if our library has Sarah's diary...

  2. Yesterday was a stay at home, curl up and read day for myself. I am reading U Is For Undertow by Sue Grafton. I have read her alphabet series up to this point. I finished half of the book yesterday and plan to pick up where I left off today, since it is another cold, gray day here in Chicago!! Hope the weather is better near you, Rhondi.

I love your card by Karen. She is a lovely, talented person! :-)

  4. Good Morning Rhondi, I always enjoy visiting your blog..it's beautifully done and so uplifting...
I too, spent yesterday afternoon snuggled under a blanket reading....My friend, Jo, owner of Knit Picky in Winston Salem had recommended a book to me and I started it yesterday and had a hard time putting it down.
The name of it is Sweet By and By by Ramona Bridges.....she has copies of it in her store because the author is a friend of her aunt's.
I am going to check out Sara's Diary...looks like a good read....
I too loved the card you received...what a sweet gift....
    Hugs and Blessings,

  5. i just love how you share your life, the quilt and card, pitter patter, so sweet! you know i am always reading, so many books, so little time left in my life kind of thing! when you are done with your books i hope you come play at food with thought on the 13th too!

i just started a new book last night that i am loving called tomato rhapsody, the tale of tomatoes arriving in italy and a fable of love, lust and longing in a dazzling feast of the imagination. trust me, its breath of fresh air, since i just finished the heretic's daughter, based on the witch trails of salem... black and dreary vereses red and sunny!

always love peeking in here, such fun pics!

  6. Rhondi, I have "These is my Words" in my stack of "to read" - I'll have to move it to the top spot. I just spotted your tea party announcement - I won't be able to participate tomorrow, I'd love to join you next week though.

  7. Dear Rhondi,
Thank you for mentioning my card, you are so lovely. Speaking of lovely I love that quilt. Your home looks like such a cozy place to curl up with a good book on a lazy afternoon. I reminded people about tomorrow's tea on my post today. Cant't wait to see what you create now. I am currently reading Knitting Together, which is an inspiration book about how God has knit us to reach our goals.

  8. I love a good book, and that one sounds great. I will have to see if I can find it at the Library.
I am currently reading "A Year On Labybug Farms" by Donna Ball. I really like her books.

  9. Rhondi, reading is one of my passions. And I can't stand to not have my books. My husband thinks I should get rid of them after I read them but I can't. I love having them around me. I will have to try that one, sounds really interesting. Both of my sisters are avid readers too.

  10. I was doing the same as you yesterday. Resting, and reading a good book; "The Memory Keeper." I must admit I stayed up a little later than usual reading. I am really loving the quilt you were wrapped in. Have a great week. Hugs, Donna

  13. Rhondi, I'm adding these books to my list. Thanks for the recommendation. I highly recommend the Josephine Bonaparte trilogy by Sandra Gulland. They are also written in the format of a diary told in Josephine's voice. These books are some of my all time favorites!
    Love your quilt.

  14. I love a good book & quilt day too. "These is My Words" is wonderful. In general it's written in a very sweet and innocent style; though there are some horrible and tragic things that happen. What an amazing woman the main character proves to be and what a sweet, tender romance. Even thinking of it now, after reading it so long ago, makes my heart grow soft. I didn't know it was part of a series.

  15. Hi Rhondi - hope you are enjoying "These Is My Words." When you have time, Nancy Turner has also written Sarah's Quilt and The Star Garden - all in the same genre...and all a delight to read especially wrapped in a cozy quilt!
    Have a good week.

  16. Sunday afternoons are almost always lazy for us. It is a day of rest after all:>) I am totally in love with that quilt. The bright colors and the thing that really sets me heart aflutter is the black and white check running thoughout. LOVE!
