Thankful Thursday

Hi friends

I am thankful for my parents. They created a secure and loving environment for my sister and I to grow up in. We knew we were loved and they loved us unconditionally. They taught us to have integrity, to give people the benefit of the doubt, to think of others, not just ourselves. They taught us about working hard, being creative and the importance of perseverance.

This is a picture of them with my dad's mom and sister at a party for their wedding just after the war. Don't they look happy? My dad enlisted when he was barely 18. Although he was in the Canadian Air Force, RCAF, he flew with the RAF (English air force). He was shot down and the family had no word from him for a long time and didn't know if he was still alive. Then he spent 3 years in a German POW camp. So they have good reason to be smiling. They were a beautiful couple inside and out. I sure do miss them. What are you thankful for today?

  2. Hi Rhondi, Beautiful picture. This week, I think, that I am most thankful for the calming influence my blogger girl friends have had on me. It is comforting to know that other women are going through similar experiences. I love that you make me think about what I am thankful for. Susan

  7. What a sweet post! I always think that our parents' generation was so much stronger and more mature than we are, and I worry that we are not giving our children the example our parents gave us...

  16. What an absolutely wonderful tribute to your parents Rhondi. I cannot imagine how your mother must have felt with your father being missing for three years. Our partents really do build our characters. I just talked about my mother in my last comment and it would have been appropriate on this one.

I hope you are having a very blessed Sunday dear Rhondi.

    Hugs ~

  17. I enjoyed the sweet photo of your parents. We owe a lot to those brave RAF pilots like your dad. What a happy couple!

My dad too was missing, and in POW camp though it was at the very end of the war. Three years for your dad, wow!

Did your father talk much about his experiences? I wish I had a tape recording of my fathers story. I was young and didn't listen carefull., I would love to hear him tell it one more time and fill in all the blanks.

  18. Rhondi, Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your kind comments. Yes, your parents look so happy in that picture. What a wonderful photo.

I'm so thankful for the power of prayer. It's such a blessing to know that we can come into the presence of the Lord and tell Him all our needs. I'm also so thankful for Scripture. We can read our Bibles and quote Scripture. This is so awesome~God's very own Word.

    Have a lovely day, Kathi
