It's Too Darn Hot

It's too hot here!! This is our beautiful hydrangea bush at 7:00 this morning. Hydrangeas like some shade and they definitely don't like the afternoon sun. A close up of some of the beautiful blooms.

Here are the blooms at 3:00 this afternoon. They are in full sun and it's about 97 degrees.
We're dying in the heat here.
One more shot.
It's amazing that tomorrow morning they will look normal again, but in the meantime I sure hate to see them suffering in the heat.
The forecast is for temps in the high 90s for all week. Too hot for me!

Hope you had a good weekend.

  1. They remind me of my husband! He wilts in the heat, too. :) I used to have some hydrangeas in another house and they did the same thing. They have the power of great recoveries though, thank goodness. I miss having them - I used to cut them often to put in my house. They're so bright and cheerful. Blessings,

  2. OOOhhh it always worries me when they wilt like that! We have had so much rain this June and the garden looks so healthy...but then so do the slugs who have almost eaten all my Hostas!

  4. Mine have that sad look, too. In fact, I think I look like that myself.

This has to let up soon. This is too hot for June.

  5. I couldn't agree more - it is definitely too hot here.

I snuck out real early on Friday morning to cut some of my hydrangeas before they were all wilted.

I invite you to come and see them on my new blog.

Also, I loved your front porch party. What a great idea and it was so fun to see all of the different porches. Your porch is beautiful and so inviting. I hope you had a very happy birthday.

  6. Wow, what beautiful hydrangeas! Blue is my favorite color though I don't have much of it in my house. I love hydrangeas and will have to plant some and hope to God I don't end up killing the poor thing! I have such a brown thumb. My beautiful garden is due to the efforts of the lady who lived here before me. Can't believe how your flowers wilted! It's hot here too, but not quite that hot.

Hey, I got a great deal on a blue and white bedspread yesterday! I posted it on today's blog.

  8. Reminds me of my Grandmothers when I was a kid... she had blue on one side of the front steps and pink on the other... we can't grow that type of hydranga here.. but do have several differnt varieties....

  10. Beautiful Hydrangeas! The North side of the big house is a huge mass of them and they are so beautiful. They do very well there. I have a few planted but they are still only babies. I hope that one day they are huge like yours and flowering like crazy!!!

  11. You have the other side of what we have.It is to soon here for the hydrangea's but the peonies are still in bloom. The treepeonies had a forthnight of beatiful sunsine but the other peonies where drowned in water and got all brown and rotten before they had a chance to bloom!! What you have to much of we had to little and the other way around too!!Have a nice day, Rhondi!

  12. I am so sorry to hear that you are having such a hot spell Rhondi. I don't like the heat myself and sometimes feel like I look like your drooping hydrangeas when it gets too hot. We are having very warm weather now too but not as hot as you have been having. I just did a blog entry about watering gardens dedicated to Mary as she had told me about the coming heat. Maybe that could help your blossoms to stay a bit more perky?

Do you find that you like to sit indoors and work on a quilt in this kind of weather? I get so much accomplished when summer comes and I am unable to get outdoors much.

Happy Monday and make it an inspiring new start!

    Hugs ~

  13. Oh it makes me sad to see your lovely hydrangea looking like that! I'm glad it perks up again, but I sure hope the heat abates for you.

  14. Thank goodness your lovely blue blooms recover from the ferocity of the heat you are experiencing at the moment. I can only grow hydrangeas pink in my garden. x

  15. I'm glad to see that my hydrangeas aren't the only ones that are having trouble 'standing up' to the heat. Poor babies!

I so enjoyed your front porch collections.... great idea!

  16. I love blue hydrangeas. They are the most beautiful of flowers to me. Here in SW Virginia, we are also having this extreme heat. On Sunday afternoon we put a slow, slow water on my hydrangea for a couple of hours so the water can really soak in but they still looked droopy this afternoon. We put some iron nails in the soil when we planted it because we heard that iron in the soil enhances the blue color. It seems to be working.
